Back in 2024, Apple teased a Siri upgrade to make the voice assistant smarter and more deeply integrated into the entire iPhone system. However, those plans hit a snag due to performance issues, leading to a delay. Instead of a ground-up rebuild, Apple integrated ChatGPT to keep pace in the AI world.

Now, a new and much-improved version of Siri is expected to launch sometime next year. According to Bloomberg, Apple is currently testing a version of Siri that can take actions on your behalf across various apps using only your voice. Pretty soon, iPhone users can do more than just open an app or ask for basic information.

Taking Voice Commands To The Next Level

To make this possible, Apple is working on a new version of its App Intents framework. In simple terms, this is the system that allows developers to give other apps and features, like search and Shortcuts, access to parts of their own app.

By upgrading this framework, Apple will enable developers to create a deeper connection between their apps and Siri. That means, Siri will be able to perform specific, complex actions within it.

It could book a Grab ride, take a picture for you, or even upload the picture onto your social media account — all without needing you to lift a finger.

The tech giant has reportedly already started testing this "new Siri" with popular apps such as Threads, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
