As part of its ongoing commitment to providing a safe and creative space, the platform is rolling out new updates to its Family Pairing programme, a feature that allows parents and guardians to link their account with their teen's.
Now, parents have more visibility into their child's online activities.
Family Pairing
It's a feature that allows parents to tailor their teen's account to their individual needs, offering a wide range of controls.
Previously, this included settings for things like daily screen time limits, who could send direct messages, and keyword filters to block certain content.
The latest updates to Family Pairing give parents a gentle nudge so they can start conversations with their children.
Without policing and controlling what their children are posting, parents are just kept up to date about the content their children are creating. Parents will now be automatically notified when their teen uploads a video, story, or photo that's visible to others on TikTok.
Besides that, parents will now have more visibility into the privacy settings their teen has selected. For example, for teens aged 16 to 17, parents can see if they have enabled downloads for their content or if their follower list is visible to others. The topics their children have chosen to appear on their feed under the "Manage Topics" feature will also be shared with parents.
By rolling out these new tools, TikTok is reinforcing its commitment to safety and privacy, aiming to strike a balance between a teen's independence and a parent's desire to keep them safe online.
