BYD and Samsung has partnered up to make it easier to unlock your cars using your Galaxy Watch. With this announcement, BYD is the world's first Chinese car brand to support Samsung watch NFC (Near Field Communication) car keys.
This functionality is currently limited to China for the moment, but could expand to other markets soon.
The latest models, including the Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch8, Galaxy Watch8 Classic, and the premium Galaxy Watch Ultra, are now capable of unlocking and starting BYD cars.

Users simply need to install two specific apps on their Galaxy Watch: the Samsung Smart Card app (version 5.1.38 or newer) and the BYD Auto app (version 9.3.0 or above).
While BYD's digital key system supports various connection methods including Bluetooth, Cloud Key, NFC, and Ultra-Wideband (UWB), the current Galaxy Watch implementation specifically uses NFC mode. To unlock your car, you just need to physically tap your watch on the car door and it will do so right away.
Once a digital key is created, it can be shared with family members and friends. You can grant temporary or permanent access to your car directly from your phone or watch, which is particularly useful for shared family vehicles or when lending your car to a friend.

BYD has confirmed that its digital keys now boast wide compatibility across three major smartphone platforms: Android, HUAWEI's HarmonyOS, and Apple's iOS.
Many tech companies have begun integrating digital car keys with their devices. Apple has its own "CarKey" feature that works with iPhones and Apple Watches, and supports vehicle brands such as BMW, Hyundai, and Kia.
