The Malaysia MADANI initiative has placed a strong emphasis on responsible growth, particularly in energy transition and sustainable practices. This commitment is underpinned by key policies such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the recent Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024.

Malaysia's efforts in energy transition have already garnered international recognition, being named the best country in Southeast Asia in the Energy Transition Index 2023 by the World Economic Forum

The NETR outlines six strategic levers for this transition, with energy efficiency and renewable energy taking the top two spots. Where Signify comes in is with its advanced energy-efficient and smart lighting solutions, including solar options.

Signify's Global Sustainability Goals

Across their worldwide operations, Signify has committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2024, and they aim to reduce their emissions across the full value chain to 50% of 2019 levels by 2030.

Their comprehensive approach to sustainability spans multiple pillars, including Climate Action, Circular Economy, Food Security, Health & Wellbeing, and Safety & Security.

The synergy between intelligent lighting systems and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies is changing how Malaysia deploys lighting solutions in cities, commercial buildings, industries, and homes.

According to the Malaysian National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP), lighting typically accounts for a significant 15 to 20% of energy use in commercial buildings. Critically, switching to IoT-enabled smart connected lighting solutions can potentially cut this consumption by an impressive 50 to 70%.

The new EECA in Malaysia is laying essential groundwork by mandating minimum energy performance standards (MEPS), energy audits, and product labelling schemes, which will accelerate the adoption of smart lighting and other efficient technologies in both the building and industrial sectors.
