Starting June 2026, Malaysia will have officially received electric-powered Rapid Buses.
To kick-off a transition towards cleaner and green public transport, Rapid Bus operator Prasarana will no longer receive diesel-powered buses moving forward.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said 310 of the buses would be diesel-engine units, the last batch to use that engine type, while the remaining units would be electric vehicles.

The electric buses would be rolling in stages across 12 months, with the appointment of contractors to be expected soon.
"Our condition is that these buses must be built locally. Even though the technology may come from other countries, the assembly must be done in our country so that we can benefit from technology transfer and provide opportunities to local companies," Loke was quoted saying in NST.
He added that there are ongoing efforts to build charging infrastructure, conduct technical training and set up maintenance facilities for these Rapid Buses.
