HUAWEI has officially launched their new Pura 80 series, which includes the Pura 80 Pro and Pura 80 Ultra. And while it is marketed as a photography-focused device, another feature is taking centerstage, thanks to a recent viral video by HUAWEI chairman Richard Yu.
A Fun Party Trick
HUAWEI Chairman Richard Yu recently shared a whimsical video on Weibo yesterday, 14 July, demonstrating just how powerful the bass on the new Pura 80 Pro was.
After turning on a song, he brought the flagship phone near a burning candle. The sound waves produced from the bass were so strong, it actually put out the fire on the candle.
How Does It Do It?
Yu explained that the HUAWEI Pura 80 Pro boasts a significantly greater amplitude than many other phones. This leads to a stronger bass, generating more air vibrations are strong enough to extinguish a burning candle.
"Imagine two drums of different sizes beating with the same force. The larger drum will vibrate more, creating a much stronger bass," he said.
And HUAWEI has applied this concept to the Pura 80 Pro. It features an open sound cavity design that utilises the entire internal space of the device. As a result, this sound framework increases the volume of the handset by 10 times compared to typical smartphones.
In addition, most smartphone speakers squish into a tiny 0.8 cubic centimetres of space, while the Pura 80 Pro dedicates a massive 8 cubic centimetres for its speakers, occupying almost the entire phone. So, this, combined with a 54% higher amplitude than other devices, produces a bass apparently powerful enough to literally blow out a candle.
