The Top 3 Differences Between Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 & Z Fold6

The world of Samsung Galaxy Unpacked has just concluded, which happened on 9 July 2025 at 10PM MYT (live from New York).

Indeed, there's a lot to unpack, and one of those thoughts would be to know what are the main differences between this year's foldable flagship Galaxy Z Fold7 versus last year's Z Fold6.

If you've got this burning question, here's what we can point out.

Highlights of Galaxy Z Fold7

In case you missed the highlights; this year's new Galaxy Z Fold7 has a good mix of hardware and software (AI) updates. Samsung has been pushing it as the ultimate powerhouse it is designed to be, targeting professional users who needs it for high-productivity. But it's also great as a 2-in-1 phone & tablet combo to have.

Previous concerns were always the durability of its screen. Therefore, Samsung has decided to approch this matter with a stronger hinge, a better folding-screen with a different adhesive, and a high-performing 200MP camera, which is the first ever in a foldable smartphone.

Now, here are some key factors.

- Bigger Camera Energy

For context, Galaxy Z Fold6 has a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide lens and 10MP telephoto lens. Although this camera set up does well in situations, it's where we can expect a big difference for settings with challenging lighting.

That's because the Galaxy Z Fold7  now has a 200MP rear wide sensor camera, which is accompanied by a 12MP ultra wide and 10MP telephoto rear lens. The interesting tri-camera setup is complemented by a dual-setup front screen camera of 10MP lens (cover) and a 10MP under-display camera.

Samsung has mentioned that Galaxy Z Fold7 is primed for Nightography with some enhancements; it can now capture 10-bit HDR video with 4x wider colour gamut range whether in the day or night. The 200MP here will do better with processing (NPU) images and brush away odd, blur details that might seem off than in real life, especially in challenging situations, compared to the 50MP on the Galaxy Z Fold6.

- Slim Built That Feels Solid & Light

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is at 8.9mm when folded, and 4.2mm when unfolded. This beats the Galaxy Z Fold6 which folds at 12.1mm thick, and unfolds at 5.6mm. Although both phones feel solid, it becomes a marvel that the Z Fold7 feels just as strong as the Fold6, albeit in a slimmer built.

That's not all. The Fold7 (vs Fold6) now has a stronger Armor FlexHinge. It's been fortified with a water droplet design, framed with a multi-rail structure that Samsung has aimed to help disperse stress and protect the display when in any folding action.

Plus, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is just 215g, compared to the Fold6's 239g weight. Although a small difference, in reality we managed to feel the difference right away at first impression.

- A Bigger Screen... But No S Pen Support

Galaxy Z Fold7 comes with a bigm, gorgeous 8-inch screen. The dynamic AMOLED 2x display panel is as vibrant as ever, and is designed with Corning Gorilla Victus Glass 2 protection. The Fold7 also has a different and stronger adhesive for the screen now, fortified with a titanium layer to avoid immature breakage.

Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold6's 7.6-inch screen, this size increase gives productivity users more room to use it like how it's intended to be; a phone + tablet variant especially for those who tend to work on their phones on the go. Alas, the Galaxy Fold6 comes with S Pen support whereas the Galaxy Z Fold7 does not... due to underused statistics in historical data.

Any Similarities?

Both phones come with the same IP certifications, very similar CPU (Snapdragon Gen 8s), and some minor Galaxy AI upgrades which doesn't apply as differences because of Samsung's commitment to deliver 7 years of security and OS upgrades. The take away?

Therefore, if you want to choose between them, the S Pen support and price reduction of older model for the Fold6 will be the biggest considerations for many users who might want to pick up a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.
