To keep pace with rapid digitalisation and streamline processes, the Health Ministry has set out to digitalise all health clinics by 2027, and all hospitals by 2029.

MySejahtera Aims To Be A Digital Health Hub

The familiar MySejahtera app, which has taken a backseat since the pandemic, is now being turned into a comprehensive one-stop digital health platform.

According to Dr Dzulkefly, the Ministry is working to integrate complete medical records for all Malaysians directly into the app. This way, both hospital and clinic visits can be accessed with ease through the app.

The MySejahtera has expanded its capabilities to include dental visit records, pharmacy dispensing records, virtual consultation reports, health screening results, and past vaccination records.

So far, 1.9 million dental records and 4 million pharmacy records have been added and stored within the app.

"By unifying these records, MySejahtera empowers both healthcare providers and patients with timely, accurate, and accessible health information, improving continuity of care and enhancing patient engagement," Dr Dzulkefly was quoted saying in NST.

Currently, the MySejahtera app provides information on nearby healthcare facilities, allows users to make appointments with healthcare providers, and keeps tracks of visits and health records. But, it doesn't include records of visits done outside of the app.

But, Being Fully Digital Is An Uphill Battle

To reduce patient waiting times at government health clinics, the Ministry aims to digitalise 200 Klinik Kesihatan.

As for hospitals, however, close to 150 government hospitals and 1,118 health clinics currently lack the necessary digital infrastructure.

Only 22 hospitals currently have a fully functional digital setup, and merely 206 health clinics are equipped for an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to keep a digital version of a patient's chart.

Besides lack of funding, many remote communities lack consistent internet connectivity. To address this, Malaysia has equipped several rural clinics with satellite internet, enabling services like tele-consultations. As of April this year, over 1,000 virtual consultations have been conducted between remote communities and health clinics in Sabah and Sarawak using these facilities.

In term of the security of digital health systems, Dr Dzulkefly has assured that the best practices have been presented in Parliament. They have strengthened audit systems under key national agencies like the National Cyber Security Agency and the Malaysia Office of the Chief Government Security Officer.

Government Services Are Also Going Digital

A new app specifically for government services, MyGOV Malaysia, will be launched sometime this month.

The MyGOV Malaysia app will be the go-to app for Malaysians to deal with matters related to various government agencies such as:

  1. Passport-related matters
  2. Registration (birth and citizenship)
  3. Driving (road tax and driving license)
  4. Healthcare (appointments and medical records)
  5. Summons
  6. Housing (land tax/assessment rates)
  7. The Rahmah Cash Aid (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah)

More features are expected to be added in the future.
