Imagine leaving your physical car keys at home and simply using your phone to unlock and start your car. That convenience is becoming a reality for Samsung Galaxy users who own Mercedes-Benz vehicles, as Samsung Electronics has announced that Samsung Wallet will soon support digital key compatibility for these cars, starting July 2025.

No More Physical Car Keys

Besides being able to lock or unlock your car with your Samsung Wallet, drivers can start their vehicle without needing a physical key or even taking their smartphone out of their pocket once they're inside their car.

Another convenient feature is the ability to securely share the digital key with friends or family. Through an easy interface, you can grant or restrict access as needed, so you can lend your car without needing physical keys.

A similar feature was rolled out in February for Volvo car owners who use Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

The digital car keys are kept securely inside your Samsung Galaxy phone, protected by top-level security (EAL6+ standards) to stop anyone from getting unauthorised access. The system uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) to make sure only your phone can unlock and start your car, greatly reducing any risk of break-ins.

If your phone is stolen, drivers can remotely lock or delete their digital keys using the Samsung Find service. Furthermore, every interaction is protected by biometric (like fingerprint or face scan) or PIN-based authentication, ensuring your vehicle and personal information remain private and secure.

Availability

The Digital Key feature for select Mercedes-Benz vehicles is set to begin rolling out in July 2025 in various regions worldwide, including countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and the US. Drivers will be able to register their Digital Key through the Mercedes me application.

To use this feature, you'll need a compatible Samsung Galaxy device, including:

  • Galaxy S21 Ultra/S21+

  • S22 Ultra/S22+

  • S23 Ultra/S23+

  • S24 Ultra/S24+

  • S25 Ultra/S25+

  • S25 Edge

  • Z Fold3, Z Fold4, Z Fold5, Z Fold6, and Z Fold Special Edition
