Starting tomorrow 1 July, commuters using the My50 unlimited travel pass will be able to renew and manage their passes digitally through the Touch ‘n Go (TnG) eWallet app. This move, announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, aims to reduce congestion at Rapid KL service counters.

Renew On Your Phones, Finally!

Before you renew your My50 pass digitally, you first have to first verify your Malaysian citizenship using an online process called eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer).

The eKYC process includes several security measures to confirm your identity, such as facial recognition, ID card validation, and personal detail checks. This process takes about a day to complete and is necessary to verify your citizenship status, as the pass is exclusively available to Malaysians.

Once verified, you can renew the pass directly on the TnG eWallet app using any TnG card that has NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities. You no longer need to present your MyKad for the pass renewal.

Here's How To Renew The Pass

  1. On the main page of the TnG eWallet app, tap "More".

  2. Select "Travel Pass" under the Transport tab.

  3. Choose an enhanced TnG card. If you already have an NFC-enabled card linked to your e-Wallet, select that one. If not, follow the prompts to link a new NFC card by choosing "select card".

  4. Pick your desired pass start date. The app will automatically set the corresponding end date, but you can adjust it if needed.

  5. Finally, confirm your purchase details and complete the payment as you normally would within the app.

You have to scan the card to your phone once more to activate the pass for use. And you're all set!

New Features Available Too

My50 users will be able to track their travel patterns throughout the month. This Monthly Travel Summary includes details such as stations you tap in and out of, daily routes, and destinations.

Loke assured users that the government will not keep track of your travel movements.

"Prasarana will only know how many people are moving from one station to another. They will not know who the users are, because the data is captured within the Touch 'n Go e-Wallet," he said, adding that the process is governed by the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Renewal At Counters Are Still Available

Non tech-savvy commuters can still renew the My50 pass using their MyKad at Rapid KL Customer Service Office at all LRT, MRT, Monorail, and BRT stations.

Selected bus hubs such as Pasar Seni, Chow Kit, Sri Nilam, Puchong Utama, Pearl Point, Greenwood, Seksyen 2 Shah Alam also have counters for the pass renewal.
