Meta is making sign-ins easier by introducing passkeys for its mobile users.
Soon, on both iOS and Android mobile devices, you'll be able to use a passkey to log in to your Facebook account, with Messenger also getting the feature in the coming months.
Passkeys: Logins with a Tap
Instead of typing out a password you've memorised (or, let's be honest, likely forgotten and reset multiple times), a passkey uses something you already use every day to unlock your device: your fingerprint, face scan, or PIN.
This technology was developed by the FIDO Alliance, a group of leading tech companies (including Meta), aiming to reduce our reliance on traditional passwords.
Besides the fact that logging into Facebook will be simpler and faster, passkeys are not easily stolen or copied because it is tied to your specific device and biometric security like your unique fingerprint or face.

It Won't Just Be For Logins
Facebook's adoption of passkeys is designed to streamline online payments and enhance security.
Eventually, you'll be able to use your passkey to securely autofill payment information when using Meta Pay. Additonally with the Passkey feature also being rolled out to Messenger, you can back up encrypted messages using your Passkey.
Conveniently, the same passkey you set up for Facebook will also work on Messenger, so you won't have to create separate passkeys.
Getting Started with Your Passkey
You can easily find the option in your Accounts Center under the Password & Security tab within the Facebook app's Settings menu. You might even receive a prompt to set one up the next time you log in.
