Our special relationship with display technologies has transcended beyond screens separating visuals and its viewers. Today most of us are heavily influenced by the content we consume through multiple visual technologies such as live-streaming, our computer monitors and smartphone screens.

Therefore, it’s important to ensure we keep healthy viewing habits, and that includes the screen we view on.

Samsung screens on their smartphones, TV and monitors are a dominant force in the global market, holding the top spot for over a decade. Technology advancement aside, Samsung’s lifestyle viewpoint has also intertwined into their new lineups, making Samsung offerings stand out from the rest.

2011 was an exciting year as we saw Samsung introduce to the world the concept of foldable displays, which laid the foundation for years of innovation. Fast forward to 2019 and Samsung yet set another record by being the first makers of a consumer foldable smartphone ever: the Galaxy Z Fold.

Alongside the Galaxy Z Flip phones that came in 2020, Galaxy Z series soon became an eye-catching fan favourite that encapsulates not only innovation but also redefined the way smartphone consumers use their phones in their daily lives.

Today, the Galaxy Z series has enjoyed 6 years of presence in the smartphone market and continues to be a leading foldable smartphone icon.

Smartphones aside, Samsung also made headlines when they displayed a Samsung Display Rollable Flex prototype in 2023, intended to reshape screens bigger than smartphones, as well as redefining the portability of tablets and laptops.

Another exciting innovation was the unveiling of Sensor OLED, the world’s first OLED screen with a built-in fingerprint and blood pressure sensors. This screen does not need any external modules such as separate components to read body vitals, therefore saving space and cost in the product model.

Through these advancements it shows Samsung’s commitment to define entirely new product categories that extend viability into our daily lives.

Leading AMOLED & OLED Panels in the World

Samsung’s cutting-edge AMOLED and OLED screens did not just power their own products but also models from other brands. It’s been an open secret that many leading technology brands enjoyed Samsung’s screens as a base for their leading models.

Known for their Retina display patent that boasts a high-density of pixels to provide smooth, clear and sharp visuals, the OLED screens on higher-end iPhones (13 Pro, 14 Pro and 15 Pro) are actually sourced from Samsung OLED panels. Although Apple also sources from other display manufacturers such as LG and BOE, Samsung still takes the lead as the brand’s primary supplier due to its display superiority and consistency.

OnePlus is also another smartphone brand to adorn their flagship models like the OnePlus 11 and 12 with Samsung’s high-quality AMOLED displays, which are great for displaying vivid colours while maintaining energy efficiency.

You’ll also find Samsung’s flexible AMOLED technology on premium OPPO devices such as the Find X series and the Find N foldables. This is an exemplary scenario that reveals Samsung’s screen manufacturing role, exploring further into hinges of the foldable market beyond its own brand.

Aside from the leading screens that power our work and play devices, Samsung’s durable panels have made interesting headlines around the world that would’ve sent chills down anyone’s spine.

In 2025, a Ukrainian soldier was reportedly saved from a piece of shrapnel that struck into his Galaxy S25 Ultra. Although the screen was shattered, its titanium frame had stopped it from hitting him.

Another military story from 2022 was when a Ukrainian serviceman said his Samsung Galaxy S20, which was in his jacket pocket, saved him from a bullet, “effectively preventing it from ripping through his midsection”.

In lighter news, popular Youtuber JerryRigsEverything had put the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 through rigorous durability tests, and both passed with flying colours. It’s clear that Samsung’s constantly pushing its boundaries further through these real stories, showcasing how technology is capable of handling the punishments of everyday life.
