Ever felt like your Instagram profile was a digital time capsule, stuck forever in chronological order? Or wished there was a way to share your current musical vibe without cluttering your main feed? Well, good news, fellow scrollers and sharers! Instagram is rolling out a suite of fresh features aimed at giving you more creative muscle and, perhaps, a little less posting anxiety. Get ready to curate your digital storefront like never before, and let your Spotify playlist do some subtle talking.

The Grid Gets a Makeover

For what feels like eons, Instagram users have pleaded for one key thing: the ability to rearrange their profile grid. Up to this point, your posts were locked into chronological order, where you can only pin a few favourite posts to the very top. If you wanted a cohesive aesthetic or needed to highlight certain content for your portfolio, it often meant strategic deleting or archiving.

However, Instagram his finally allowing you to rearrange posts on your profile grid. You can now tweak your grid's layout to be perfectly aesthetically pleasing or strategically highlight important content.

To rearrange your grid, simply press and hold a post directly on your profile, or tap "Edit Profile" and then select "Edit Grid." From there, you can easily drag and drop your posts to any position you like on your profile grid.

Spotify Jams in Your Notes

Instagram Notes — those little thought bubbles above your DMs — just got a major musical upgrade: you can share real-time Spotify directly to your Notes.

You can instantly display the track and artist you're currently listening to on Spotify, right there for your followers to see. If you don't want to bother with a Instagram Story to share your tunes of the day, this update is a wonderfully low-key way to share your mood, your latest obsession, or just let your friends know what's soundtracking your day.

Posting on the Down Low?

Beyond these already exciting additions, Instagram is also testing a feature that could be a huge relief for many, especially introverts: the ability to post "quietly" to your profile. Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed this experimental option would let you add content to your profile grid without it appearing in your followers' main feeds.

Imagine capturing a perfect moment, wanting to keep it on your profile for personal memories or future reference, but not wanting the pressure of public likes, comments, or the ever-present algorithm. This "quiet posting" aims to reduce the stress often associated with public sharing, encouraging users to experiment more freely and post for themselves, not just for the audience.

New Tools To Help Instagram Creatives

These updates arrive just in time for Instagram’s 15th anniversary and are part of its broader mission to champion creative expression and support emerging talent. Other recent initiatives include:

  • Trial Reels: A way to test video content with non-followers first, potentially leading to wider reach.
  • Edits: Continued development of Instagram’s mobile video editor, now powered by AI with a "restyle" feature for quick visual transformations.
  • Drafts Program: Offering funding, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities for promising new creators.
  • New Fonts: Including one inspired by singer Rosalía’s handwriting, available in Stories and Reels for a touch of charm.
