realme GT 7T vs GT 7 Dream Edition: Worth The Extra RM1,000?

The recent realme GT 7 Series launch in Malaysia also saw the release of a special edition dream series as well — an Aston Martin collaboration of the flagship realme GT 7.

Within the series is the realme GT 7, GT 7T and GT 7 Dream Edition. They are all similar in the sense that they are great for gaming.

With that said, GT 7 Dream edition is RM2,999 and limited in stock. The original GT 7 costs RM2,599. Not only that, we also have the GT 7T at RM1,999, which is a more budget-friendly tier.

Our realme GT 7T review concluded that it's a budget-friendly phone worth picking up purely for high-end gaming experience.

So this might leave you hardcore-gamers a question: Should you pick the GT 7 or is GT 7T enough? They have a RM1,000 difference.

To compare, we lay down a few points between the GT 7 Dream and GT 7T.

Design

Let's start on the obvious first glance between the two. realme GT 7T comes in several sleek, modern finishes – classic black and a cool blue. It's also a solid, premium-feeling phone.

For the realme GT 7 Dream Edition, it’s developed with Aston Martin Aramco F1, sporting that stunning Aston Martin Racing Green. You can see the silver wing logo, aerodynamic lines, and even with exclusive F1-themed software. The phone also comes in a special packaging set.

So, if you're a fan of unique aesthetics and exclusivity, the GT 7 Dream Edition certainly stands out.

realme GT 7 Dream comes with a special software theme.

Performance & Storage

Now, let's talk raw power. realme GT 7T is no slouch. It's powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Max. This chip is capable for its class – gaming, multitasking, daily use, it handles it all with ease.

Meanwhile the GT 7 Dream Edition packs the more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9400e. This chip competes with the top-tier flagship processors. So here you can expect even snappier performance, better AI capabilities, and just that extra headroom for anything you throw at it.

Some slight differences: GT 7T has a lower-tier GPU (Mali-G720 MC7), so graphics will look better on the GT 7 Dream which has GT 7’s GPU (Immortalis-G925 MC12).

Now, if you get the GT 7T's cool blue, it is also made with a special IceSense Graphene Cooling System to keep it cool while gaming.

In our test, 19 minutes of GT 7T gameplay on Call of Duty got us just a mere 2°c increase from 30°c to 32°c! Meanwhile, gaming on the GT 7 Dream edition for just 16 minutes already got us going up 3°c from 31°c to 34°c.

For just pure gaming power, GT 7T is already quite impressive. Even between the two, graphics was very similar in quality (both high and immersive). Therefore, the slight difference is that GT 7T has better gaming cooling system, which might make sense to help avoid throttling and performance issue due to its weaker CPU.

Here comes a kicker; realme GT 7T has only up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Whereas, the GT 7 Dream Edition comes with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Although the RAM doesn't make too much of a difference here, the additional storage on the Dream Edition makes it great as a primary phone.

Photography

Hello shutterbugs, here is where there is a clear difference. On the realme GT 7T is a standard dual-camera setup consisting of a sharp 50MP Sony IMX896 main sensor with OIS, and an 8MP ultra-wide.

For us, it’s good for everyday shots and wide landscapes. However its portrait mode feels lacking due to the absence of a telephoto sensor, so the bokeh does not look or feel natural.

We do like the results on GT 7 Dream Edition which has a more versatile triple-camera system. You get a 50MP Sony IMX906 main, still excellent, but crucially, a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom.

This is a huge upgrade for portraits and getting closer to the action without losing quality. Plus, it also has the 8MP ultrawide. Not only that, but solours are also more natural-looking on the GT 7 Dream for us, somehow.

When it comes to video, the Dream Edition pushes further with 8K recording and 4K at 120fps, even Dolby Vision HDR, thanks to that more advanced processor.

Battery & Durability

Now, both phones are surprisingly similar in battery.

GT 7 Dream and GT 7T feature stunning AMOLED displays, at 6.7 and 6.8 inches respectively, with a crisp 1.5K resolution and a super smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Both can hit an incredible 6,000 nits peak brightness, making them easily visible even in direct sunlight. Plus, they both have features such as super-fast touch sampling.

Battery life is another shared superpower. A massive 7,000mAh battery in both, coupled with blazing-fast 120W SuperVOOC charging. That's approximately a full charge in 40 minutes.

Beyond the core specs, both phones share some great features: Android 15 with Realme UI 6.0, an impressive IP69 rating for water and dust resistance, and advanced cooling systems for gaming. They also integrate realme's 'NEXT AI' features, like AI translation and Google Gemini.

So, Which One is For You?

Simply put, choose the realme GT 7T if you only want strong gaming performance, a stunning display, and epic battery life at a really compelling price point. It's a high-value powerhouse that's worthy of being called a flagship killer... for gaming only. With that said, its lower 256GB storage also seems limiting for anyone who wants it as a primary phone.

Therefore, we have to say that the realme GT 7 Dream Edition is for those who wants it as a primary phone, and that it's for those who crave the absolute top-tier performance from the GT 7 line, appreciate a more versatile camera and are willing to invest in that exclusive, eye-catching Aston Martin design and unique unboxing experience.
