I think it's safe to say: iPhone users can collectively understand the frustration of being stuck with a rigid nine-minute snooze.
While iOS 18 only lets you turn the snooze feature on or off, with no control over its duration, that's all about to change. With the upcoming iOS 26, Apple is finally letting us adjust how long that extra bit of shut-eye actually lasts!
Finally, I Can Sleep Longer On My Own Terms
In a welcome update to the Clock app, Apple is ditching the fixed 9-minute snooze. Once iOS 26 arrives, you'll be able to choose anywhere from 1 minute all the way up to 15 minutes for snooze times on your alarms, though the familiar 9-minute setting remains the default.

Here's how to adjust it:
- Open the Clock app on your iPhone.
- Tap the Sleep/Wake Up menu at the top, then select Change.
- Scroll down to find the Snooze Duration option and tap it.
- Select your preferred snooze time.
- Tap the orange check mark in the top right corner to save the new setting.
You can also adjust snooze times for individual alarms. Simply open the Clock app, then tap an existing alarm or create a new one. Look for the Snooze Duration option and choose your preferred time.
Your iPhone's Snooze Button Is Set To 9 Minutes & There's A Reason For It

Interestingly, beyond the mechanical limitation, there's even a psychological argument for the nine-minute snooze. According to Holly Schiff, a licensed clinical psychologist, "In terms of sleep, nine minutes is just enough time for a brief rest; however, once you get past the ten-minute mark, your body can start to fall back into a deep sleep, which will make waking up again difficult and more unpleasant."
So as annoying as it is, the nine-minute snooze is actually somewhat beneficial for our sleep cycles. Apple has stuck with this duration when they launched the very first iPhone back in 2007, and it has remained unchanged until now.
