For a while now, WhatsApp has allowed you to create personalised 3D avatars. Previously, if you wanted to use an avatar, it would replace your traditional profile photo. But with this latest update, currently being tested with some beta users, you no longer have to choose!
WhatsApp is rolling out a fun new feature where you can display your avatar right alongside your regular profile picture.
A Cool "Coin Flip" Effect
When you enable this new feature, you'll first get to pick a background colour to pair with your avatar on your profile. But if you want to spice it up further, you'll then be prompted to select an animation for your avatar, with options include a playful wink, a friendly wave, or even showing a "Peace" sign.
Once customised, your avatar will appear on your WhatsApp profile right next to your regular picture. What's really cool is how contacts will see it: when they swipe on your profile picture within the chat info screen, it will pop up with an animated "coin flip" effect. One side will reveal your traditional profile photo, while the other smoothly reveals your customised avatar with its chosen background and animation.
You'll be able to modify how the avatar looks at all times, such as changing the background colour or pose. You can also edit the appearance of the avatar directly from the profile screen to keep it fresh and representative. And, if you ever decide to go back to a traditional profile photo display, there is also the option to remove it.
When Can You Try It?
This exciting new feature is currently being rolled out to some beta testers who have installed the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. If you're a beta tester and haven't seen it yet, don't worry — it's expected to reach even more people over the coming weeks.
