ASUS Republic of Gamers has announced the next evolution of its gaming handheld lineup: the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Developed in close collaboration with Xbox, these new devices offer an all-new ergonomic design, Xbox-optimised software, and flagship AMD Ryzen Z2 series chips.
Designed to blur the line between console and PC gaming, this new series is set to redefine handheld gaming, especially for those looking for a premium alternative to the Steam Deck or Lenovo Legion Go.
However, Malaysia won't be among the first wave of market to get the ROG Xbox Ally. News to follow soon on its launch officially here in Malaysia. The nearest market to get your hands on them would be in neighbouring countries such as Singapore and Thailand.
While we wait on its arrival into SEA, here's what to know about the new series.
All-New Design Built for Gamers, By Gamers

This generation, the ROG Xbox Ally has a redesigned chassis inspired by Xbox Wireless Controllers to offer comfort at its core. It's been designed with an improved grip texture and palm rest, made for extended sessions.
The Xbox Ally X also includes impulse triggers for nuanced haptic feedback. Additionally, the ROG Ally series weighs at 670g for the Ally, and 715g for the Ally X. The designs are made portable without being too light and fragile when handled.
Xbox-First Software Meets Full Windows 11 Power

These handhelds boot into an authentic Xbox experience while retaining full Windows PC functionality. On the ROG Xbox Ally series is an Xbox-inspired UI with joystick-based navigation. The UI is even arranged with a Game Bar overlay to offer quick access to settings and widgets.
Underneath the hood is a full Windows 11 OS, allowing easy installs from Xbox, Steam, Epic, and mod platforms. And to further make everything as seamless as possible, users can launch Xbox Game Pass ready out-of-the-box without needing to download anything.
Two Powerhouse Processors to Match Different Needs

Both models feature new AMD chips optimised for battery life and AI workloads. In the ROG Xbox Ally is the AMD Ryzen™ Z2 A, possessing 16GB LPDDR5X-6400 and 512GB SSD for memory and storage. The model powers on a 60Wh battery and is expected to have boosted battery durability.
Meanwhile the ROG Xbox Ally X comes with the AMD Ryzen™ AI Z2 Extreme, possessing a 24GB LPDDR5X-8000, 1TB SSD memory and storage specifications. The model also comes with an 80Wh battery and integrated AI NPU for unparalleled battery in a high-end handheld with enhanced efficiency and cooling.
Additionally, the SSD for both Xbox Ally models are user-upgradable as well!
Underneath the ROG Xbox Ally series is also AMD’s FidelityFX, RSR, and Fluid Motion Frames for smoother gameplay. Should you need to charge up during a gaming session, the batteries are enhanced with bypass charging support so that it does not cause any thermal and charging issues. This also extends the Ally series' lifespan.
Display and I/O: Everything for Smooth AAA Gaming
Both Xbox Ally models will come with high-end display and connectivity. They'll sport a 7-inch 1080p IPS panel, which supports a 120Hz refresh rate with FreeSync Premium. Protection-wise, the displays are also covered with Gorilla Glass Victus and anti-glare coating.
