If you're an Instagram content creator who dreads memorising scripts, you can breathe a sigh of relief! Instagram's dedicated video editing app, Edits, is getting a new feature: a built-in teleprompter that will help present more naturally on camera.

No More Splitting Your Eyes To Get Your Script Right

First mentioned in a Wired article, Instagram revealed that it will rolling out an in-app teleprompter feature on the Edits app to help content creators look right into the camera as they're reading scripts.

A recent peek into this neat feature, shared by Threads user @alex193a, shows that the app will soon offer an in-stream rolling text display. Your script will appear directly on your screen, subtly scrolling as you record. You'll be able to adjust both the speed at which the words are displayed and the size of the text, allowing you to read comfortably at your own pace. Your videos will feel much more natural and fluid, as though you're addressing your audience. No more awkward pauses, glancing away, or obvious memorisation.

In addition to the teleprompter, another helpful update is on the way: the ability to adjust the volume across all clips in a project. This might seem like a small detail, but for anyone who combines multiple video segments, it's a major win to ensure your audio levels stay consistent throughout your video.

These exciting new capabilities are expected to drop in the next few weeks. So, if you're a video creator on Instagram (or planning to be!), keep an eye out for these updates in your editing app.

But, Creators Rarely Post On Just One Platform. Should They Be Using Edits?

For many social media video creators, CapCut has been the go-to mobile editing app before posting content to platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X. Now, Instagram is stepping up its own editing game with its dedicated app, Edits, aiming to make video creation even smoother for smartphone users.

While Edits isn't looking to replace powerful desktop tools like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, it's clearly designed for anyone wanting to craft better social media videos right from their phone. One significant advantage Edits offers over CapCut is that it allows all creators to export their videos in high quality without adding a watermark. This gives it a notable edge, as CapCut typically adds a watermark to exported projects unless you pay for a subscription. So, while Edits might currently have fewer features than CapCut, it comes with the attractive benefit of being completely free to use and free of watermarks.

Beyond its editing capabilities, Edits also lets you save ideas, reels, and collections directly within the app, keeping all your creative inspirations in one convenient place. Jot down new video concepts or add notes to your saved reels for future reference.
