ChatGPT, your go-to AI assistant, is getting some massive upgrades that are set to make your digital life much easier, especially if you're juggling lots of documents, spreadsheets, or meetings.

In an announcement on YouTube yesterday, 4 June, OpenAI unveiled two new features coming to its AI chatbot: a "Record Mode" for capturing audio and generating notes, and the ability to connect directly to your files in Google Drive, Dropbox, and more!

"Record Mode": A Personal Secretary

ChatGPT now offers a handy "Record Mode", letting you record audio directly within any chat. Just tap the "Record" button at the bottom of your screen to start. As you speak, ChatGPT transcribes everything in real-time.

Once you finish, ChatGPT quickly generates a clear, editable summary, complete with time-stamped citations and even suggested action items. Each recording goes up to 120 minutes per session. These recordings then become part of your "internal knowledge" within ChatGPT. This means you can later ask specific questions, like "What did we decide in Monday's content planning meeting based on these notes?", and get instant, accurate answers with references back to the original recording.

What's more, you can ask ChatGPT to transform these notes into various useful formats, such as project plans, professional emails, or even code structures, and save them as a "Canvas" document right within the app.

For your privacy, OpenAI ensures that all audio files are deleted immediately after transcription.

This feature will be rolling out gradually to Team workspaces, while Enterprise and Edu subscribers will see it soon.

ChatGPT Can Be Synced With Cloud Storage Devices

ChatGPT can now connect directly to Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, and OneDrive, allowing you to ask questions about your own stored spreadsheets and documents.

ChatGPT will be able to automatically decide when to use these "synced connectors" to answer your questions. If you want to be specific, you can explicitly ask it to "Search my Drive for..." or toggle the source in the UI. And if you prefer, you can choose "don't search internally" for a particular question. You could ask ChatGPT to summarise a PowerPoint presentation, to determine revenue growth, or even ask it about your flight itinerary.

Currently, it supports a wide range of file types, including Google Docs, Google Slides, PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, plain text files, and Markdown files. While images and charts within these files aren't supported yet, Google Sheets and Excel workbooks are partially supported for basic queries.

This Google Drive connection is rolling out now, specifically for ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu workspaces, so many businesses and educational institutions will be able to leverage this powerful integration.

"Memory" Feature For Everyone

OpenAI has also extended its handy "Memory" feature to free ChatGPT users. This means ChatGPT can now remember details about your life or work across different conversations, so you won't have to repeat yourself with every new prompt.
