For years, iPad users have had to make do with the smartphone version of Instagram. But wait no longer! After what seems like forever, Instagram is finally developing a dedicated app for the iPad, so you can enjoy reels on a larger screen.

Development of the Instagram App For iPad Is "Full Steam Ahead"

Though the Facebook app has been on the iPad since 2011, the company has yet to create one for Instagram. So, what was the hold-up? According to reports, the delay was mainly due to Meta's (Instagram's parent company) concerns around:

  • Aspect Ratio: Initially, Instagram focused on square images, and there were worries about how these would look on the iPad's rectangular screen.
  • Image Quality: With most photos taken on smartphones, there were concerns that the lower quality of some images might be more noticeable on the iPad's larger display.

However, with advancements in smartphone camera technology and Instagram now supporting a wider range of aspect ratios, these concerns have been addressed, paving the way for the dedicated iPad app.

Here's What You Expect From The iPad App:

While details are still under wraps, the new Instagram app for iPad is expected to take full advantage of the tablet's larger display. This means better image quality, better multitasking, and improved content creation.

No more awkwardly zoomed-in interface! With the larger screen, the app will likely be optimised to display and edit content in higher resolution. Utilising the iPad's multitasking features, like Split View and Slide Over, you can use Instagram alongside other apps without feeling cramped.

When Can You Get It?

Bloomberg reported that the new app is expected to roll out to users later this year, with Meta employees already testing it. This is exciting news for iPad users who have long awaited a proper Instagram experience on their tablets.

WhatsApp (also under Meta) recently launched an iPad version of the app last week.
