Imagine if you could simply tap "Sign in with ChatGPT" without needing to create another username and password for a new app.
OpenAI, the company behind AI chatbot ChatGPT is quietly exploring this idea, sharing a "Sign in with ChatGPT" interest form on their website. Whiles this move could change how convenient log-ins become, it certainly raises some questions about privacy and security.
One-Tap AI Login
We're all familiar with the hassle of creating a new account for every app and website. "Sign in with Google", "Sign in with Apple", "Log in with Facebook" — these options have saved us countless minutes. Now, OpenAI is looking to add "Sign in with ChatGPT" to that convenient list.
With the interest form, OpenAI is specifically targeting developers who would be keen to let users log into their apps using their ChatGPT accounts. According to TechCrunch, the company is interested in getting its sign-in feature into all sorts of apps. The form asks participating companies about their size, from tiny apps with under 1,000 users to giant ones with over 100 million. They also want to know how these companies currently charge for AI features and if they already use OpenAI's existing API services.
Those with free, Plus, and Pro ChatGPT accounts are welcome to sign up for this testing phase.

Time-Saving vs Privacy
A unified login would be a huge win, especially if you're a forgetful person. You'll be able to access apps much quickly without the tedious signup process. Plus, if you're already deeply integrated into the ChatGPT ecosystem (maybe you use it for work, studies, or just for leisure), this could be a seamless way to access related tools and services such as writing apps or learning platforms.
However, relying on an AI for our apps logins naturally raises some concerns over privacy.
If one account controls many apps, it means more of your digital footprint (what apps you use, how you interact with them) could potentially be linked back to your ChatGPT profile. What kind of data will OpenAI collect about your usage of these third-party apps? Besides that, centralising logins are always risky. In the event, your ChatGPT account ever gets compromised, it could potentially affect all the other apps connected to it.
Certainly some things to mull over as the "Sign in with ChatGPT" feature is still very much in its infancy. Once OpenAI gathers feedback from interested developers, they'll work closely with them through testing phases before the feature can officially roll out.
