In an age where AI can convincingly mimic human voices and faces, and online scams are getting smarter by the day, how do you really know if you're talking to a human or a sophisticated bot?
The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, while bringing many benefits, have also ushered in a new era of digital threats. Deepfake scams, revenge porn, identity theft, and AI-generated impersonations are becoming frighteningly prevalent.
World, a human-first network, is establishing to a global standard for proving that you are a real human online.
Love Scams In Malaysia Have Led To Loss Of Millions
The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) reported 770 love scam cases involving the use of deepfakes in 2024 alone. Financial losses amounted to RM45.9 million — a RM2 million increase from 2023.
Authorities have also issued warnings about deepfake manipulation featuring notable figures, falsely claiming government endorsements and promising unrealistic returns.
What's worrying is that Malaysia currently does not laws to deal with deepfakes.
How Can World Help?

World is an app that provides a digital identity system called World ID to prove you're a real human online, without giving away your personal details. Think of it as a "proof of human" verifier.
Here's how it works simply:
- Download the World App on your phone (iOS or Android)
- Verify your identity using your passport or by using a special device called an Orb (which scans your eye)
Once you're verified, you get a special digital ID that lets you confirm you're human across different websites and apps on the internet without sharing your name, phone number, or email address.
World isn't working alone in its mission to make the internet more human. They've teamed up with some very big players:
- Visa: You'll be able to link a "World Visa Card" directly to the World App. This means you could soon use "WLD" (Worldcoin, World's digital money) and other digital currencies to pay for things anywhere Visa is accepted, just like regular money.
- Match Group (Tinder): Starting with Japan, World ID will let people on dating apps confirm they're talking to a real person, not a bot or an AI fake. Your private info isn't shared, making online dating safer and more geniune.
- Razer: Razer, known for gaming hardware plans to use World ID to create "human-only" gaming experiences.
This makes World ID especially useful for Malaysians. With all the deepfake scams and fake accounts popping up, it offers a secure and private way to have more trusted interactions on social media, dating apps, online wallets, and other platforms. Every time you use a service that's part of the "World Network," your verified "proof of personhood" is used, ensuring you're interacting with real people.
