Ever been distracted while in the middle of something and you lose your train of thoughts?
Apple might just have the solution for that. They've quietly rolled out a new shortcut called "Hold That Thought" — designed to help you quickly capture whatever's on your mind – be it a fleeting thought, something on your screen, or even what you just copied.
Hold That Thought: Capture and Recall
While initially conceived with neurodivergent users in mind, this handy tool looks like it could be a productivity boost for anyone constantly juggling tasks and ideas. It's a quick and east way to save the context of what you're doing when an interruption occurs, allowing you to seamlessly pick up right where you left off.
The "Hold That Thought" shortcut operates on two modes: "Capture" and "Recall".
Say, you're in the middle of reading an article and a phone call abruptly comes in. Simply run the shortcut and select "Capture." In an instant, it grabs a screenshot of your current screen, any calendar events within the next hour, the open webpage in Safari (if you're using a Mac), and whatever you've recently copied to your clipboard.

The shortcut then prompts you with two simple questions:
- What were you doing?
- What do you want to do next?
Your answers, along with the captured information and timestamp, are neatly saved in a new note titled "Hold That Thought" in your Notes app.
When you're ready to return to your task, run the shortcut again and select "Recall." The most recently created "Hold That Thought" note will appear, providing you with all the contextual clues you need to dive back in without missing a beat.
How Do You Find The Shortcut?

The "Hold That Thought" feature is available for free in the Shortcuts App on Apple devices. You can find it in the "Gallery" tab under the "Shortcuts For Accessibility" group.
Once installed, you can trigger it in a few ways. You can simply run it from the Shortcuts app, or even more conveniently, you can simply say, "Hey Siri, hold that thought." For those rocking an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, you can even assign it to the Action Button for instant access.
