Yayasan Peneraju, an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Economy mandated to identify, develop, and manage Bumiputera talent, has introduced a strategic place-and-train initiative, the YP Accelerate (YPXLR8) Programme. This programme is designed to help individuals from non-technical backgrounds get the skills they need for jobs in Malaysia's growing tech industry.
Addressing Malaysia's Growing Demand For Digital Proficiency
With technology-related skills in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, networks, and cybersecurity in high demand, the programme aims to help 1,000 Bumiputera individuals, regardless of prior experience, fill tech roles.
“It is crucial that with the hundreds of thousands of jobs that will be displaced because of the AI revolution, the millions of talents today need to be re-equipped with the tools to be future-proofed, by being tech-ready,” Yayasan Peneraju CEO Ibrahim Sani was quoted saying in FMT.
Programme Structure and Benefits
The programme includes a minimum eight-month placement with industry partners serving as hosting companies, where participants may also obtain permanent positions within the companies. During this period, participants will undergo industry-relevant training, which will help them develop essential skills through structured mentorship and practical, hands-on experience.
Each selected participant will receive financial support amounting to RM1,500 per month for the duration of the eight-month programme. Additionally, participants will be granted a one-time allocation of RM9,000 in training credits for the tech skills they need while they are working with the hosting companies.
The YPXLR8 Programme curriculum will help participants cultivate specialised competencies in variety of sough-after tech jobs, including software development, data and analytics, systems and infrastructure, cybersecurity, AI and machine learning, and user experience (UX) or user interface (UI) design. Furthermore, training will be provided in product management, business intelligence, and software support.
Industry Partners From All Sectors Are Welcome
Yayasan Peneraju is actively seeking collaboration with industry partners across all sectors to participate as hosting companies. These companies will offer roles in technology-related domains, including digital analytics, cybersecurity, business intelligence, and allied fields.
Industry stakeholders interested in becoming hosting companies for the YPXLR8 Programme are invited to register their interest via the Yayasan Peneraju website by 15 July 2025.
