According to Samsung US, Samsung Wallet app will be having a new Tap to Transfer feature — allowing users to send money between phones simply by tapping two Galaxy devices together.
Conveniently in line with the timely release of just before Apple’s similar “Tap to Cash” launches with iOS 18, this feature pushes Samsung Wallet ahead in the peer-to-peer (P2P) payment race. For Malaysians, this could hint at a future alternative to DuitNow or eWallets — without needing QR codes or banking apps.
Tap to Transfer — NFC-Based Payments Made Simple

Samsung’s Tap to Transfer uses near-field communication (NFC) to let two Galaxy users send money with a literal tap. This payment method should work between NFC-enabled Samsung devices using the Samsung Wallet app
Using the Tap feature also allows transferring of money from Visa or Mastercard debit cards saved in the sender’s wallet. For convenience, receiver can be a digital wallet or physical debit card with a Samsung Galaxy phone that supports tap-to-pay.
Future Hints Beyond Galaxy-to-Galaxy

Interestingly, while the tap feature is exclusive to Galaxy devices, Samsung confirms that the recipient doesn’t need to use Samsung Wallet. Right now it is compatible with any digital wallet or card that supports contactless payments. If the receiver isn’t nearby, you can also send money via remote transfer, using their Samsung account and phone number.
For now, Samsung's Tap feature might just be for Samsung phones. But there's a possibility of Android-to-Android NFC payments as well, referring to the string of Android trends that were led by Samsung in the first place.
At the moment in Malaysia, most fund transfer services between phones and users still heavily rely on QR codes. If this Samsung feature is also coming to Malaysia and integrates with local banks, it'll pose as direct competitors to the existing popular local eWallets such as Touch N' Go as well as Maybank's MAE.
On the other hand, it would also be interesting to see the feature work with regional wallets like GrabPay, especially if Asean partnerships expand, boosting Samsung's presence in the SEA region.
