This has long been rumoured and discussed feverently since the days of sneak peeks at Samsung's first generation of Galaxy Z series. Lately, we've caught wind that Apple might be (hopefully) bringing in the Foldable iPhone in 2026.
Probably from the past couple years of observing foldable trends and issue, Apple has noticed a recurring problem and that is the foldable screen of the phones.
It's unsettling that the screen itself is what makes many foldable models across varying brands expensive in the first place. And, it's porbably why Apple has been holding back on similar releases, as it is their supposed goal to bring a foldable that puts design excellence and durability first and foremost.
Below are the specifications that will likely come out on the foldable iPhone.

7.8 inches Display
Through MascRumours, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says that the upcoming foldable iPhone will feature a nearly invisible crease and a high-quality hinge, setting it apart from existing foldable devices. Macrumours forums have also shared to expect the inner display at a size between 7.8 to 8 inches, which is ample of screen real estate for various tasks.
Durable Hinge Construction
The foldable iPhone is said to incorporate a "much higher-quality hinge" compared to other foldable smartphones. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously suggested that the hinge will be constructed using a combination of titanium and stainless steel, enhancing both durability and the device's premium feel.

Other Specifications
Beyond the display and hinge, other rumours shared within MacRumours forums on the foldable iPhone varies from camera specs to size of the phone:
- 5.5-inch outer display for quick access to notifications and essential functions.
- A dual rear-camera system and a front-facing camera.
- A Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button, potentially replacing Face ID to save internal space.
- A high-density battery designed to maintain performance despite the device's slim profile.
- An ultra-thin design, measuring approximately 4.5mm when unfolded and between 9mm to 9.5mm when folded.
Possible Delays to Foldables & Even iPhone 18
The rumours have been going on for almost a decade. But with so many brands now out with their foldables, it feels as if Apple's chance to impact the foldable smartphone market might just stay "Once Upon a Time" if they don't make a move soon.
Given how the recent tariffs have shifted production for iPhones and others Apple devices to India and Vietnam, and the fact that the next iPhone 18 release will likely be delayed to Spring 2026, it won't be surprising to find out if we have to wait another year for more foldable iPhone news.
Should foldable iPhones come to Malaysia, expect to see premium prices as well from USD2,000.
