Worried About Unlucky Car Accidents? Make Sure Your Dashcam Have These Features

Malaysia ranks 3rd highest for road accidents in Asia. In fact, about half a million of Malaysians were involved in road accidents in 2024 (Source). Sometimes, it’s unlucky when we can’t prove the fault in the accident, and we end up with an expensive car bill, unable to claim our insurance premium.

It is why having a dash camera has become a high priority and suggestion for Malaysian car owners these days. No matter how skilled a driver is, you’ll never know!

Luckily, everyone can easily shop for one online. But with so many brands and models, it becomes overwhelming to choose the right one, even for us at ProductNation.

To nail down the right dashcam at the right price, it’s good to focus on the features that truly matter. Here are the top features you should go for in a dash cam, especially if you’re new to them.

1. High Video Clarity

You might have seen dash cams praising how high their video resolution is. This is not to be taken lightly, because when an incident happens, you need all the clear footage you can get as your evidence for a police report and insurance claims.

At minimum, you should only accept 1080p (Full HD) or higher for clear footage. FYI it is also the standard minimum recording resolution in modern smartphones. This quality is able to record most types of details, but specific ones like car number plate and human faces would be better recorded with a 1440p (2K) or 2160p (4K), great for accidents that may have foul play.

Some additional features worth considering are Sony STARVIS sensors, HDR (High Dynamic Range), or Night Mode, so that your footage has better clarity in low-light conditions (like dark highways—all too common in Malaysia).

2. Parking & Motion Detection Mode

Not every accident happens when the car is moving. In fact, dash cameras are very useful when the car is parked either indoors or outdoors. Accidents also happen even if your car’s moving slowly. Therefore having a dash cam with parking mode and motion detection is very handy.

With the motion detection modes, footage will be captured before and after an impact, not just when motion is detected at the moment. The detection can be as sensitive as going over a big bump, or when the car is driving in a busy street with a lot of pedestrians.

Whereas, parking mode means the dash cam still runs and has the capacity to keep recording when your car engine isn’t turned on. Note that when in parking mode, it would require the dash cam to be connected to another power source such as a power bank or similar.

3. Fast & Easy Transfer Methods

It’s a bad day when you’re involved in an accident, the traffic is piling up and it’s a hot day. That’s a very stressful situation to be in. To quickly wrap up, you have to make a police report, that’s when being able to access recorded footage for evidence right away is a blessing.

Most dash cameras these days, thankfully, have an accompanying app to let you quickly access footage. Usually the more advanced dash cameras even come with cloud storage, making it easy to access files quickly and instantly.

But otherwise, we recommend a dash camera with 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity for fast transfer speed. This means you can get the footage right away without needing to rely on a PC to access the micro SD.

Speaking of which, make sure your dash camera supports micro SDs with big storage so you can store more older files instead of them being overwritten too quickly (to make way for new ones).

Now that you know a little bit more about dash cameras, you might be wondering already, “What’s a good dash camera that offers the necessary luxuries?”

The DDPAI Z60 Pro stands to be one of the best value car dashcam options to go for in Malaysia. It’s also easy to install without needing any additional installation services. Just stick it onto your car dashboard and plug it into a car charger adapter. Done!

Z60 Pro comes equipped with Sony STARVIS 2 sensors (front and rear) that capture crystal-clear 4K front and 1080p rear footage. Want a license plate in motion or a close-call moment at night to be clear as day? You’ll be safe in the proximity of the Z60 Pro, thanks to its NightVIS 2.0 AI image processing

The dashcam can also record smooth and detailed footage of fast-moving vehicles, thanks to its 3K resolution capable of capturing 60 frames per second.

Footage access is easy as the Z60 Pro has built-in 4G, enabling cloud storage support. This lets you access remote live viewing and uploads of footage.

If you want 3-way channel recording (front, inside and rear), you can use DDPAI’s πLink feature to add an additional interior camera for full-coverage. This is particularly advantageous for ride-hailing services.

Using πLink, you can connect the Z60 Pro to the DDPAI MINI2X, a 360° rotatable dash cam model, for interior recording instead. This gives you a modular option to upgrade and expand your car’s dashcam coverage system from a 2-way to a 3-way channel instead.

Once connected, the dash cams will automatically sync with each other, allowing you to manage and view from multiple angles through the DDPAI app.

Plus, the DDPAI Z60 Pro is made to deliver when parked even under the Malaysian sun, all thanks to its supercapacitor that lends it enhanced reliability and consistency, especially in extreme temperatures. And, the Z60 Pro dash cam has 24/7 parking mode as well as collision detection mode.
