Review & Specifications

  • Resolution: 1080 x 2392 pixels

Attractive colours

In true vivo fashion, the vivo V50 is available in a couple of interesting colours, and our Ancora Red unit is just as striking everytime we glanced at it, with a matte body material similar to satin. The smartphone is also very lightweight with its body composition feeling like a mix of plastic and aluminium material.

Despite the phone feeling slippery and smooth, V50 is pretty easy to grip securely even with small hands. This small detail is thanks to its "rounded middle frame and 41° golden curvature design" which vivo has designed to provide a nice grip.

You can get away without the use of a phone case. But if you're concern, vivo V50 comes with a clear silicone complimentary case in the box, now considered uncommon among most smartphones. This is a small bonus and vivo gets some brownie points here for thinking about its users.

Aside from its colour though, the candybar design of the vivo V50 remains modest and common like many other phones. Though, vivo's proprietary Aura Light for mood lighting underneath the camera notch caught our attention in marking it as a vivo phone.

V50 Feels Slim & Comfortable To Grip At its Side

The vivo V50 also seems small in its size which is largely thanks to its slim body. Yet, the screen feels comfortable and sufficient as the vivo V50 comes with a 6.7 inches AMOLED screen and curved edges. Therefore, when watching videos, visuals are filled within the phone's screen.

At the sides are the volume rocker and power button, with microphones at the top and speakers at the bottom of the phone.

Moreover, vivo V50 is resistant against water and dust, having been rated IP68 & IP69.

- Zeiss-Imaging For Camera

  • Rear Cameras: 50MP (wide angle) + 50MP (ultra-wide)
  • Front Camera: 50MP

Double 50MP Front Lenses with 50MP Front Lens

With Zeiss imaging, the vivo V50 is capable of taking clear shots especially during the day. It's sharp and has sufficient details when in between modes.

The official specifications are"Wide lens 50 MP f/1.9 + Ultrawide lens 50 MP f/2.0" for rear camera, capable of capturing 119 degrees wide view. Whereas a "50 MP 1/1.55 flagship sensor" makes up for the front camera with a 92 degrees wide view.

As always, one of our favourite camera innovations from vivo is their signature fill light, now updated with AI capabilities as "Aura AI Light Portrait 2.0". Lighting options are aplenty and may help with setting the mood as well (if you're experimentative like that).

But without the fill light, we find that contrast can be overdone in dim-lit places, and that images may have visible noise present. More over, separation between subject and background can also have unnatural results. This means that during day time dim settings, you might need to turn on the Aura Light instead of just relying on the typical white flash which is sometimes not a good choice for natural looking images, especially for portraits.

Otherwise, colours are fairly neutral although not the most accurate. All in all, sharpness and especially portrait mode images are great on the vivo V50. Plus with its IP68 and IP69 rating, you can take clear shots underwater with no issue at all.

The V50 may have trouble producing results just as good when in dim settings.

- Durability & Performance

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3
  • RAM: 8GB / 12GB
  • Storage: From 128GB up to 512GB
  • Battery: 6000mAh with 90W wired, with reverse charging support
  • Operating System: Android 15, up to 3 major Android upgrades, Funtouch 15

With the latest trend of phones featuring a slim profile with a big battery pack, the vivo v50 holds a 6000mAh BlueVolt Battery pack, which are technically slim battery packs with high capacity. This allows the vivo V50 to be at 199g in weight.

In a day, with average phone users, the phone has no problem reaching 1 day's worth of use thanks to the phone's battery efficiency. Moreover, its 90W wired charging lets you charge the phone to 100% in under an hour.

UI and UX, Software Support

Running on a clean 15 TouchOS (based on Android 15), and a starting 8GB RAM and an octa-core Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, the UI looks clean and easy to navigate. Its 120Hz OLED screen makes animation of the 15 TouchOS even more fun to admire.

While there are some bloatware that comes with the phone, you can easily spot and remove them without any issues.

If you're looking to get this phone for the long run, the vivo V50 also comes with 3 years of Android updates & 4 years of security updates which is good enough for most users.

- Who is this for?

Priced at RM2,142, the vivo V50 is a good mid-range choice for those who wants superb phone durability, great camera performance and big battery life. Although storage is limited, the fair performance of the V50 makes up for it. If it were us, we'd get the higher storage option of the V50.

Pros

  • Sharp and clear day time results especially in portrait modes
  • High durability phone materials (IP68 and IP69)
  • Great battery life

Cons

  • Mediocore phone design
  • Camera doesn't do as well in dimmer settings
