Samsung Galaxy S25+ Review: It's a Boring But Safe Smartphone

This year we are not seeing much differences between the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S24 series. From the outside, the two generations look the same. However, if you're holding an old Samsung Galaxy S22, or a Galaxy A series, or even a smartphone with not more than 4 years of security and software support, you should consider the Galaxy S25+.

In the series, the Galaxy S25+ is usually recommended as the balanced flagship. It has a bigger and better robustness than the base Galaxy S25, but not as expensive or over-the-top as the S25 Ultra. So if you want a premium experience that offers a large screen, smooth performance, and long battery life—but without a high price tag—this is the model to look at.

Design & Display

Mentioned before in our first impression, the Samsung Galaxy S25+ has the same design as the Galaxy S25, and looks like the Galaxy Galaxy S24+. For this generation, it has a lightweight aluminium chassis paired with Corning Gorilla Glass that gives it a classic sleek and timeless look in modern Samsung smartphones.

As expected, the Galaxy S25+ also has a beautiful 6.7-inch LTPO display with 1440+ resolution, and yes it is the same as the Galaxy S24+. At least the screen remains vibrant and sharp even under the bright sun.

A very slim smartphone, the Galaxy S25+ is only 7.3mm thick and 190g. Thus, the Galaxy S25+ has a sizeable yet manageable screen that keeps it lightweight and comfortable enough to operate.

Moreover, there's now support for a Qi2 standard and new Magnet Cases, which adds versatility to charging for this generation.

Performance & Battery

Like its other siblings in the series, the Samsung Galaxy S25+ is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It utilises 12GB RAM and supports up to 512GB of internal storage. Multi-tasking on the Galaxy S25+ is a breeze and temperatures stayed on the cool side even when we were gaming for 30 minutes.

Becoming a common trend among new generations of smartphones are slimmer phones with bigger batteries, and we're not surprised to see that the Galaxy S25+ with a thinner chassis while retaining its 4,900 mAh battery capacity with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.

However, for a bar-style smartphone, the Galaxy S25+ has quite the small battery size when compared to its competitors. Samsung does have an efficient system that calculates to ensure your battery don't run out too fast.

Camera

Mentioned before in our first impression, the Galaxy S25+ has a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Again, these specs are the same as the Galaxy S24+. But now with enhanced Galaxy AI and an upgraded Snapdragon Elite 8 Chip, Samsung has shared that results will benefit better results.

We take it that this affects mainly AI search functions as we don't see much difference or uniqueness between the Galaxy S24+ and S25+. Still, you'll get a good camera off the hood. Photos as usual are clean and with natural colours, with good separation in AI-generated portraiture.

Enhanced Galaxy AI Features

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is the first phones to adopt the new OneUI 7.0, which introduces a redesigned interface and enhanced Galaxy AI features. Also powered by Google Gemini, the Galaxy S25+ comes with advanced AI writing tools and the Now Bar, an intuitive and AI-learning notification organiser that highlights important events and such.

These are the features you'd want to pay attention to on the Galaxy S25+:

  • Circle to search: Circle an item on screen to get more search results on it. This works on photos, screenshots, videos, and just about anything that has a visual.
  • Now Brief (now bar): This is an ai-learning bar that compacts and summarises as well as highlight notifications from your usual apps. Say you're wanting to focus on the scores of a game tournament, the Now Brief is able to give you real-time updates without being restricted by the phone's lockscreen.
  • Camera & Video: There's a new Audio Eraser that lets you remove unwanted background noises like crowd cheers or wind from your videos. Whereas the improved Auto Trim is an ai-led clip suggestion that curates several videos to put into a clip together. Finally Generative AI functions have been improved as highlighted by Samsung for the S25 generation. In fact, results are more realistic now. A bonus from Generative AI; you can also prompts into new emoji for your Whatsapp stickers!
The AI emoji was a fun result of the generative AI on the Galaxy S25 series.

Who is this for?

Priced from RM4,099, the Galaxy S25+ in between the series is a good compact yet powerful phone to have.

The Samsung Galaxy S25+ does not have much of a difference from the previous generation, so if you're still holding a Galaxy S23 or 24 series, you can give the Galaxy S25 a miss. This is the same for anyone with a similar-level smartphone from other brands.

But, if you lack at least two of our highlighted features (example, no AI, low quality camera etc), the Galaxy S25+ is a decent recommendation especially if you want to futureproof your mobile experience, as the QHD+ display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 enhances just that. If we can be frank, you can opt to save a bit extra by opting for the Galaxy S24+ which feels almost the same as the S25+. What you'll lack is the enhanced chipset and an extra year of software update.

Pros:

  • Has one of the most advanced AI-led system in the market
  • Premium and well-built design
  • Nice camera that's good for most types of photography
  • Incredibly lightweight for a smartphone in its category

Cons:

  • Not as innovative and unique as many other brands (boring, if we want to put it bluntly)
  • Expensive compared to previous generations
