This Samsung Galaxy S generation's round of update is... more AI!
Since the introduction of Galaxy AI into Samsung, it has seen its way across the many categories housed under the giant conglomerate, mainly home appliances, consumer tech and even education. Now, the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S25 series is also expected to impact the average user's daily lives with more Galaxy AI updates for everyday use.
Using Samsung Galaxy AI which is powered by Google's Gemini, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will take awhile to show its AI-prowess since its machine-learning system requires more user experience and input.
For now, this first impression article will look at the hardware, design and AI features of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Display and Body Hardware
Design
The Galaxy S25 Ultra sports a similar look to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but with a slimmer body, curved edge and different camera placement this time. It comes in 4 main colours: Silverblue, Gray, Whitesilver and Black. There are also 3 exclusive online colours: Pinkgold, Jadegreen and Jetblack. Unlike the Galaxy S25 and S25+, the Ultra variant will be the only one in the series to utilise a titanium chassis.
Screen
The phone also uses a Gorilla Armour 2 on front for extended protection to the screen. Speaking of which, the Galaxy S25 Ultra retains the same 6.9-inch size screen as its predecessor.
Additional S Pen
Moreover, like the previous generation, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has an S Pen. However, it does not have bluetooth, so you can’t do special gestures for quick accessibility of its apps. This would be a big blow to note-takers reliant on the S Pen for productivity.
Camera and Battery
Photography
The Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a tri-camera setup of 50MP Ultra Wide + 200MP Wide + 50MP telephoto lenses; a decent upgrade from the Galaxy S24 Ultra given the boost of the 50MP ultra-wide lens from the S24 Ultra's 12MP ultra-wide lens (which means clearer landscape photos). Meanwhile, the front camera is the same as previous generation of 12MP.
Videography
With all that said, one of the biggest changes the Galaxy S25 Ultra has are its enhanced videography features such as a 10-bit Video Log, Audio Eraser and ProVisual Engine to handle removal of noise, contributing to clearer visuals overall in low light conditions.
Battery
In terms of battery, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have a 5,000mAh battery capacity and support for Qi2 wireless charging. For fast charging, the speed remains at 45W like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Now, if you've always liked magnetic charging much like Apple's trademarked MagSafe, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be able to enjoy that aspect, except that the magnetic features are on the covers of official third party Samsung accessories brands such as Spigen.
OS, Processor and Galaxy AI
For OS, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will run on the Android 15-based One UI 7.0 software. This OS, together with the Snapdragon Elite 8 chip optimised for Galaxy, are designed to provide enhanced, more realistic and accurate generative AI results.
The presence of Snapdragon Elite 8 chip bodes well for better gaming with 120Hz frame rates. With that said, Samsung has employed a larger vapour chamber to dissipate heat and control thermal aspects better than the Galaxy S24 Ultra, so gaming shouldn't be a problem.
Besides that, the Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with a starting 12GB RAM, and now comes with up to 1TB ROM for memory storage.
When it comes to Galaxy AI, Samsung shared that the Galaxy S25 series will have a much more personalised user experience, such as curating personalised schedules and reminders for you (Now Bar), look up searches quickly AI Select and even cross-app action (AI Select). This means if you're looking up, say Google search, the AI can work across to other apps like Whatsapp.
That's all the brief glance for now. Stay tunes for an in-depth review!
