Galaxy AI Recap

The Galaxy AI Trends Worth Praising (...& Those That Could Be Improved)

AI isn’t just a buzzword!

As 2024 comes to a wrap, it’s really not hard to identify the driving force of this year’s technological advancements: AI. More than a mere buzzword, Samsung’s Galaxy AI has come a long way. From being a collection of handy tools to becoming a true companion for creativity, productivity, and social interaction, the Galaxy AI suite has made a significant impact on how we use our devices daily.

So, after having spent the past year being bombarded with AI on every single Samsung release this year, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy Tab S9, I can confidently say there’s plenty to love—and a few things that could be fine-tuned.

AI for Fun: Boosting Creativity, But Not… Creating Creativity

What’s technology if not for entertainment? One of the biggest and most popular Galaxy AI features this year has to be Sketch to Image, at least in my personal opinion. With Sketch to Image, Galaxy AI takes your most basic sketches—yes, even the crudest stick figures—and transforms them into impressive art pieces. In fact, you can even add such hand-drawn—to a certain extent—elements to your photos to enhance them!

Watching a simple doodle transform into a polished piece of art is undeniably exciting. In the same vein, Portrait Studio transforms your ordinary, run-of-the-mill selfie into a drawing of different styles, giving you a profile photo that stands out—but while this felt like quite the revelation at first, it seems a little tame now that I’ve had a whole year to get used to the four art styles that Galaxy AI offers.

Generative Edit, on the other hand, had a much better longevity. It’s a genuinely helpful feature for enhancing photos—removing clutter, adjusting lighting, or adding effects. Sure, it may make some questionable choices at times, like replacing a potted plant with a potted cactus (what even was the point??), but it’s still great for on-the-go touchups of your photos.

Then there’s Instant Slow-Mo, which manages to hold its own as a crowd-pleaser. It’s perfect for turning ordinary moments—like a pet’s playful antics or a quick high-five—into cinematic slow-motion clips.

Then again, while these tools undeniably boost creativity, they don’t create it. Nothing can truly replace human creativity, but there’s really no harm in boosting it a little—which is exactly what Galaxy AI achieved this year.

AI for Work: Your Productivity Powerhouse

If you’ve read all my previous articles on Galaxy AI, you’ll know that there’s one phrase that comes up really often (apart from AI): productivity powerhouse. It’s no wonder, because Galaxy AI truly shines on the productivity side of things.

For one, Note Assist has been an indispensable tool for organising my chaotic thoughts in my notes. More often than not, I type much faster than my brain can think, so typos and formatting are often pushed to the back burner. That’s where Note Assist comes in—it truly “fixed it in post”, as we say, making me feel much more productive and efficient.

Meanwhile, Transcript Assist made my work life easier by seamlessly transcribing voice memos and meetings into organised notes I could revisit anytime. Too lazy to take meeting minutes? Just record the whole meeting in Samsung Notes and tap a button!

AI for Social: Breaking Barriers

When it came to staying connected, Chat Assist and Live Translate are my top picks.

Chat Assist felt like a secret weapon for texting—it offered witty replies when I needed to lighten the mood and formal phrasing for emails that required just the right tone. I am a writer, but sometimes, I just can’t spare enough brain cells for a formal email or message. Even better, Composer debuted with the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, which just helps compose a whole message based on some short notes!

I know every language now 😤 Samsung's new Galaxy AI comes with LIVE Chat Translation which is going to make everyone a language expert! This allows you to type out a message in your language and have it translate in real-time with just a tap of a button. Works with upto 17 languages at launch. #galaxyai #samsung #s24ultra #chattranslation #ai #tech

And for anyone who works across language barriers, Interpreter and Live Translate are game-changers. It impressed me not only with real-time translations but also with its offline capabilities, which came in handy during trips with spotty data connection.

AI for Search: Smarter Answers, Faster

I can’t talk about Galaxy AI without singing about Circle to Search with Google, a feature that quickly became my ultimate research companion. I never knew how much I needed a quick way to look up whatever was on my screen until Circle to Search came along.

Circle to Search with Google is basically a digital assistant that can answer almost anything with minimal effort. Expanding its functionality to include translations, music recognition, and math solutions has made it so much more indispensable—who knows how many invaluable minutes I’ve wasted all this time switching between apps!

The Galaxy AI suite in 2024 has proven to be a revolution in how we interact with our personal devices, and 2025 will be a bigger year for AI, that’s for sure. Galaxy AI shows no signs of slowing down, and with the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S25 series, slated for early next year, we can expect exciting advancements. Audio editing tools, maybe?

That said, no technology is perfect. As Samsung continues to innovate, we can only hope it keeps refining these tools to make them even more user-friendly and accessible. For now, though, Galaxy AI has set a high bar, and I, for one, am excited to see where it goes next.
