Design & Comfort
At first glance, the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 has an unconventional design that is more typical of bone-conduction headphones, which can take a bit of getting used to. Unlike traditional earbuds, these sit comfortably around the ears, leaving the ear canals open.
The good thing about this design is that it helps maintain awareness of your surroundings, which is crucial for runners and cyclists. It also keeps your ear free of sweat during more intense workouts.
In terms of fit, the lightweight build (just 30.3 grams) is surprisingly secure, making them ideal for long runs or gym sessions. They stay put without the need for constant adjustments, something we really appreciated.
The OpenRun Pro 2 is also designed with an IP55 rating, making it sweat and water-resistant—ideal for intense workout sessions or runs in light rain.
Performance
Of course, in essence, the primary job of a pair of earphones is to provide a good listening experience. Thankfully, the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 are pretty decent when it comes to sound quality.
Featuring Shokz’s DualPitch technology with dual drivers, these earbuds manage to deliver a decent bass, which is more than can be said of other open-ear earphones. For context, open-ear earphones tend to be weaker in the bass department as they don’t actually go into our ears.
Our reviewer did a 5km run with the OpenRun Pro 2 and was pleasantly surprised by the high-quality sound, which remained clear even at higher volumes.
However, during testing, she also noticed an occasional quirk: the music would pause mid-run randomly, even when we weren’t touching the earphones. We figured was due to the sensitivity of the multifunction button, which we hope Shokz will refine in future versions. Despite this minor issue, the sound quality and overall performance are truly impressive, especially for open-ear earbuds.
Battery Life
With up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge, these earbuds have more than enough juice to last for a whole marathon.
For those who often forget to charge, the quick-charge feature is a lifesaver: a 5-minute charge provides up to 2.5 hours of playtime—perfect for those times when you’re heading out the door in a hurry.
Verdict
Combining comfort, solid sound quality, and practical durability, the Shokz OpenRun Pro is really a pair of earphones made for sports. Its ergonomic design and lightweight build will give you one less thing to worry about while getting in those miles or pumping iron, and also keeps your ears clean and free from sweat, unlike conventional earbuds.
