Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i Review: Well-Balanced With A Brilliant Display

The display is really a feast for the eyes!

As a recent addition to Lenovo’s repertoire of AI PCs, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i claims to be the go-to device for professionals and creatives who seek a balance of performance and versatility, and after spending two weeks with it, I have to say that I’m quite impressed.

With standout features like Intel Core Ultra processors, a lightweight build, Dolby Atmos audio, and a 3K PureSight Pro display, it certainly checks many boxes. However, like most devices, it does have its quirks.

Build & Design

On par with its name, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i’s slim design makes it incredibly easy to carry around, whether commuting, travelling or just moving from room to room. It’s not all that heavy either, at 1.49kg, though I have experienced lighter laptops like my current HUAWEI MateBook 14.

Overall, the build quality feels solid, though there’s a slight flex in the lid, which is common in laptops of this weight.

Of course, as a Yoga laptop, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i’s 180-degree hinge is one of the highlights of the laptop’s features. The laptop can lie completely flat, which is useful when using the touchscreen display for drawing or signing e-documents.

Honestly, I didn’t find much use for this since it doesn’t go all the way round and turn the laptop into a tablet, but it’s still a nice touch.

Port-wise, the Yoga 7i Pro comes with with USB-C, Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, and mini-HDMI options, reducing the need for dongles—a huge plus if you’re managing diverse peripherals.

Display

The 3K PureSight Pro display is pretty impressive, I have to say. It delivers sharp and vibrant visuals that make watching movies and consuming content a feast for the eyes. Even in gaming, it provides a vibrant and immersive experience.

That said, I found the display not quite bright enough for outdoor use, as it is quite reflective, making the screen harder to read when in direct sunlight—something to consider if you frequently work outdoors.

For indoor use, though, it’s a great display, showcasing colors accurately and making general tasks feel more engaging. From my experience, the colour reproduction is also pretty decent.

Performance

The Intel Core Ultra processors and Lenovo X Power certainly deliver a strong performance, handling everything from document editing to creative software like Adobe Photoshop and even moderate gaming. The Lenovo Yoga 7i Pro comes with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Series graphics card, which enhance the overall gaming experience.

However, under heavier workloads, I found that the laptop does warm up quite a lot, particularly near the keyboard area. It’s not uncomfortably hot, but it's noticeable enough to be worth mentioning.

I mentioned earlier that the Yoga 7i Pro is one of Lenovo’s new AI PCs, so of course, it comes with Lenovo’s own AI Engine+, which optimises performance, battery life, and cooling based on the tasks being performed. It also has a dedicated Copilot button built right into the keyboard, which is really useful to access Microsoft Copilot.

While not a groundbreaking feature, it adds a layer of intelligence that makes the laptop feel more responsive. App launches were quick, and performance was smooth even during multitasking, particularly when switching between different software.

Keyboard and Trackpad

As a writer/editor, I am pretty particular about the typing experience on any laptop I use. Unfortunately, most of the time, the keyboards that come integrated with most laptops are unsatisfactory, especially in terms of key travel and tactile feedback, which is why I have external keyboards (mechanical are best!).

I have to say, though, the Lenovo Yoga 7i Pro has a better keyboard than my regular laptop. It has a 1.5mm dish keycap keyboard, which offers a reasonably comfortable typing experience with decent key travel, though not as much as a mechanical keyboard, which is not surprising.

The backlighting of the keyboard is helpful for typing in dim environments too, though I did find it to be obnoxiously bright at times. The keys are well-spaced as well, making it easy to type quickly and accurately.

Meanwhile, the trackpad is spacious, responsive, and smooth. While I will always prefer using a mouse, the Lenovo Yoga 7i Pro’s trackpad is still pretty reliable for occasional use.

Battery & Charging

The Lenovo Yoga 7i Pro sports a 4-cell Li-Polymer battery, which provides reliable performance, lasting through a full day of regular usage, including web browsing, document editing, and video streaming. For heavier tasks like video editing or gaming, the battery life does drop more quickly, but this is to be expected.

Besides that, it also comes with Rapid Charge support, which is a major plus, allowing the laptop to regain significant battery in a short amount of time.

Verdict

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i is a well-rounded device that delivers a strong mix of performance, portability, and versatility, making it a great choice for professionals, creatives, and casual gamers alike.

If you’re a professional on the move or a creative looking for a versatile laptop, the Yoga Pro 7i deserves serious consideration. While it’s not without its quirks, the overall experience is largely positive, making it a worthwhile device for those seeking a balance of power and portability.
