If Cinderella wanted to run back home quick, she'd need the adidas Ultraboost 5. Why? The adidas Ultraboost 5 is a shoe that truly embraces the concept of comfort for speed.
In fact, if there was one word to describe the shoes as we were reviewing it, it would be “bouncy”. It was akin to running on a cloud, thanks to its innovative LIGHT BOOST midsoles.
As pretty and as impulsively-enticing as they are, one would give the shoes a quick glance because they come with a high price tag of RM749.
How now, brown cow? Here are our thoughts on the adidas Ultraboost 5 and whether you should get a pair.

Regardless if you're looking to run with comfortable shoes or need a pair for an all-day excursion, the adidas Ultraboost 5 is one you can consider especially if aesthetics are important.
The adidas Ultraboost 5 is more than just a running shoe; it’s an experience. With its exceptional energy return, adaptive fit, and reliable traction, it’s a shoe that encourages runners to push their limits and enjoy the ride. Whether for short sprints or long-distance marathons, the Ultraboost 5 delivers on its promise of comfort, performance, and style, making it a worthy addition to any runner’s arsenal.
About adidas Ultraboost 5
With an additional 9mm of foam, the adidas Ultraboost 5 offers a noticeable energy return that makes each stride feel more powerful and fluid. The shoe’s lightweight nature enhances this sensation, giving runners the freedom to extend their strides and raise their legs higher without feeling weighed down like how traditional sport shoes would be.
Adding more comfort to the shoe wearer would be the Ultraboost 5's Primeknit upper which allows the shoe to adapt to your feet shape for a snug fit.
Traction is another area where the Ultraboost 5 excels. Whether running on wet roads, gravel paths, or indoor treadmills, the shoe delivers reliable grip across all surfaces. The consistent traction ensures that runners can focus on their stride and performance without worrying about slips or loss of control, even in less-than-ideal conditions.
First Impression & Performance
From the get-go, the Ultraboost 5 is surely a looker. Like all of its Ultraboost predecessors, these ones carry the signature vibrant colour palette along with a seemingly supportive sole cushion.
Thankfully the shoes are more than just looks. Performance-wise, the Ultraboost 5 doesn’t disappoint.
The energy return from the midsole is one of its standout features, especially during sprints and flat terrain runs. This energy boost is what makes the shoe a joy to run in, particularly on long, steady runs where maintaining momentum is key. However, on steeper inclines, runners may notice a slight reduction in pace as the ankle grip, while secure, can become slightly restrictive.
Fit & Comfort
Fit-wise, the Ultraboost series has always been on the narrower side of running shoes which could overtime be painful for those who do not have a “default” foot shape. However, the Ultraboost 5 can be said to be particularly accommodating for those – like us – who have wider feet.
The Primeknit upper provides a snug yet flexible fit that adapts to the foot’s natural shape. While the toe box might feel slightly tight initially, but after extended wear, the area manages to hug the foot comfortably, allowing for a secure yet breathable experience which is especially great after an extra sweaty run.
After an initial break-in period, the Ultraboost 5 settles into a natural fit that supports the foot through various activities, not just running. Therefore, it could be a great companion during activities that require a lot of walking such as when you’re traveling. To add, the fact that it’s appealing to the eye and efficient in functionality is just an added bonus.
Breathability & Durability
The Ultraboost 5 also scores well in terms of breathability. While runners may experience some heat build-up during intense sessions – which is inevitable – the shoe is able to quickly cool down. This ensures that the foot remains comfortable throughout the run and can avoid bacterial buildup which could lead to concerns such as “athlete’s foot”. Moisture management is effective enough to keep feet dry, with any accumulated sweat evaporating relatively quickly, thus reducing the risk of blisters, sores, and discomfort.
As for durability, while it’s still too early to judge in our review, the Ultraboost 5 shows promise. The materials used in the upper and sole feel robust yet lightweight, suggesting that the shoe is built to withstand the rigors of regular running without compromising on performance.
