According to Bloomberg, Apple's engineering team is exploring the creation of a home robot capable of autonomously following users around their residences. Additionally, they are also delving into the development of a tabletop device equipped with robotics and display screens.
The decision to pivot towards home robotics follows Apple's closure of its Special Projects Group, the team responsible for the electric vehicle initiative. Launched in 2014, the secretive program aimed to explore new product markets and recruited automotive engineers among others. However, after years of development, the project was ultimately shelved.
Despite the setback, Apple remains committed to innovation in hardware and artificial intelligence. The company's hardware engineering division, alongside its artificial intelligence and machine learning group, are spearheading the research and development of personal robotics. However, it's important to note that the home robot project is still in its nascent stages.
