Apple has unveiled its iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, featuring aerospace-grade titanium for a lightweight yet durable design, a powerful A17 Pro chip, and a camera system equivalent to seven pro lenses, including a 48MP Main camera. The new Action Button allows the user to program them to do what they need. From opening the camera to activating Voice Memos, Focus modes, Translate and many more which you can set up to your liking. All you have to do is press the button and hold.
The new iPhone 15 Pro lineup is available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes and has a titanium design. Fun fact, this is the same alloy used in spacecraft to Mars! The titanium build makes the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple's lightest Pro models ever while still being extremely durable. Under the hood, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are powered by the A17 Pro chip, marking a significant leap in smartphone technology. This 3-nanometer chip is the industry's first, and it brings a multitude of enhancements across the board. The CPU, redesigned for greater speed and efficiency, is now up to 10 percent faster, featuring microarchitectural and design improvements.
The Neural Engine, a pivotal component for AI-based functionalities, is now 2x faster. This boost in performance enhances features like autocorrect and Personal Voice in the latest iOS 17. Gamers, in particular, are in for a treat, as the pro-class GPU is now 20% faster and features a new 6-core design. This means better performance and energy efficiency, while also making graphics smoother and allowing for more immersive AR applications and gaming.
As expected from Apple, the camera system also gets major improvements. It includes the equivalent of seven pro lenses, driven by computational photography and powered by the A17 Pro chip. You’re also getting a 48MP Main camera that introduces a new 24MP super-high-resolution default mode, combining incredible image quality with practical file sizes, perfect for storage and sharing.
With the new iPhone 15 Pro, you can seamlessly switch between three popular focal lengths—24 mm, 28 mm, and 35 mm—and even choose one as their new default. The Main camera also supports 48MP ProRAW and 48MP HEIF images with 4x more resolution, opening up creative possibilities.
The 3x Telephoto camera in the iPhone 15 Pro and the extraordinary 5x Telephoto camera in the iPhone 15 Pro Max deliver unparalleled optical zoom capabilities. This innovation is ideal for capturing close-ups, wildlife, and subjects at greater distances. The iPhone 15 Pro Max's Telephoto camera incorporates an innovative tetraprism design with optical image stabilization and an autofocus 3D sensor-shift module.
As part of a better experience with your camera, Apple has further enhanced Night mode, bringing sharper details and more vivid colours through the Photonic Engine. This feature, including Night mode portraits enabled by the LiDAR scanner, delivers exceptional low-light photography. It also has a new Smart HDR that ensures that photos retain true-to-life renderings of skin tones while exhibiting brighter highlights, richer mid-tones, and deeper shadows.
Additionally, Both models come with USB-C connectors, allowing faster charging and data transfer. They support USB 3 speeds, up to 20x faster than USB 2. The second-generation Ultra Wideband chip enables better connectivity, with three times the range. This enhances Precision Finding for Find My Friends, ensuring you can locate each other even in crowded places. The iPhone 15 Pro series supports Wi-Fi 6E for faster wireless performance and introduces the first Thread-enabled smartphones, offering potential integration with home apps.
The devices come with iOS 17, featuring updates like Contact Posters in the Phone app, Live Voicemail, enhanced Messages with transcription of audio messages, and much more. StandBy mode provides useful information at a glance, and interactive widgets offer convenient actions. It also features NameDrop which is a faster method to save another iPhone user’s number. Simply keep your phone close to theirs and the contact will be saved. Even your home/lock screen and Standby come with a more intuitive feel and look that makes playing and pausing music easier.
Apple is also making significant strides towards environmental sustainability, especially since the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max incorporate recycled materials, including a 100% recycled aluminium substructure and recycled cobalt in the battery. Moreover, they exclude leather from their products, opting for sustainable alternatives. The iPhone 15 Pro would also be able to record spatial videos for the Apple Vision Pro headset which is coming next year. Unfortunately, the Apple Vision Pro is only available in the U.S.
