We’re already approaching the end of 2022, and what an amazing year it has been for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, particularly the high-end Galaxy S22 Ultra. Bigger screen, performance-driven Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1 chipset, best-in-class quad-camera module and an improved Note-like S Pen with low latency – these are some of the reasons that made the Galaxy S22 Ultra one of the best Android smartphones this year.
So, what’s next for Samsung? Well, safe to say the brand isn’t going to sit back and rest on its laurels. For their next release, there are already plenty of rumours and speculations online that has been hyping up the new Galaxy phone, and here’s what we know about it for now.
Rumour Has It...
First things first, we haven’t had any official confirmation about what kind of hardware will be in the new Galaxy phone. In fact, we aren’t even sure what it will be called, but online consensus seems to have dubbed it the Galaxy S23 Series, with the base, Plus, and Ultra models, just like the Galaxy S22 Series that was released earlier this year.
Then again, that doesn’t stop the speculators from giving us their best guess on the upcoming smartphone, and here are some of the most fascinating ones to get you all excited about the company’s upcoming smartphone lineup.
-
Major Camera Upgrade
One of the main things we always want to see on a flagship phone is better cameras. The new Galaxy series will not be disappointing in this area, as sources has claimed that it may be coming with a whopping 200MP main camera in the Ultra model!
-
Improved Chipset
New year, new phone and of course, a new chipset. And in the case of the new Galaxy S23, we can look forward to Qualcomm’s newest chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was just released last month.
Given the fact that Samsung and Qualcomm have signed a prolonged licence partnership agreement through the end of 2030, we will likely be seeing more Samsung hardware to be included with Snapdragon chipsets, starting with Samsung’s next flaghips.
With the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in the Galaxy S23 series, expect an octa-core performance that would benefit better mobile gaming and multitasking than the previous Snapdragon Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 seen in the Galaxy S22 series.
-
Same Old Display Sizes
When it comes to a phone display, it’s either going to be bigger or smaller. Or it could retain the same size, which is apparently what we will be getting from the new Galaxy series. Rumour has it that it would be the same sizes as the previous models. In other words, the base model will sport a 6.1” display while the Plus will be 6.6” and Ultra at 6.8”.
Even the screen resolutions might be the same as well: 1080 x 2340 for the base and Plus and 1440 x 3088 for the Ultra.
-
Super Brightness That Makes You Sing “I Can See Clearly Now…”
In terms of peak brightness, the Galaxy S22 series tops at 1,300 nits for the S22 and 1,750 nits for the S22+ & S22 Ultra.
FOr the new flagships, we’re expecting a brighter-than-ever display, rumoured to reach as high as 2,000-2,200 nits of peak brightness. If this is true, then the new Galaxy phone could be one of the brightest phones on the market, leaving most of their competitors in the dust.

A Little Tweak Here and There in Their Design
Don’t expect any major differences in terms of the phone design in the Galaxy S23 series. Still, that doesn’t mean we won’t be getting any changes at all. Based on what we found from OnLeaks and Smartprix, the new Galaxy phones will retain most of the same design characteristics as their predecessor, with a slight change: the previously contour-cut camera module at the back might be removed, leaving only the protruding lens like the current Galaxy S22 Ultra.
As for the new Ultra, the phone would probably look identical to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. That means the phone frame and even the camera module are the same except for certain angles. The right and left edges will sport a significantly square design while the sides are somehow flatter than the rounded S22 Ultra.

Boss, nak cili “SOS”... We Mean Satellite Communications
Apple already has its own Emergency SOS vis Satellite featured on its iPhone 14 lineup. Even Huawei has introduced a satellite service via BeiDou on its latest Mate 50 flagship models. Now, Samsung is reportedly collaborating with Iridium Communications (via ETNews) to join the bandwagon in incorporating satellite communications into the new Galaxy series. This will allow users to utilise satellite connectivity to send SMS or small/low-resolution images.
Sounds Fun. But When?
We all know that dreaded feeling of waiting for a new device to come out. But based on the previous launch of the two Galaxy S generations, which were released in January 2021 and February 2022 for S21 & S22 respectively, we will likely be expecting more of the same. And that is around January or February 2023, so won’t be long before we finally get to see the spanking new Samsung Galaxy series.
