Galaxy Z Flip4 - FlexCam-3

3 Low-Light Photoshoot Tricks + TikTok Ideas To Try (Feat. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4)

A huge camera sensor isn’t just for getting sharp photos. It’s great for night shots too!

If you were wondering why having a large camera sensor on your phone is a big deal, let us break it down for you.

Having a large camera sensor means it can read and take in more details to add to your photos. Anything from dynamic range to light; the larger the sensor, the greater it can produce. Essentially, that means a large sensor can take in more light, which affects the sharpness and brightness of your shots.

But photography is not just about clear shots. In fact, how you deal with light effects will make for an interesting media content feed and even your portfolio. Luckily, mobile phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 are able to process low-light/night images just as clear as a traditional DSLR or even a compact mirrorless camera.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 is well-equipped with an industry-standard camera system. But perhaps the most interesting feature is its foldable form. When using Flex Mode (folding into half), it works in tandem with its cover screen which can act as a viewfinder for you to utilise. Not only that; but Flex Mode allows it to stand on its own so you don’t need a tripod! Together with its 12MP dual camera system, you’ll never be bored when creating photo and video content on this phone.

1. Long Exposure

Here’s a cool popular camera trick. The effects you get are a well-lit photo with a steady subject and blurred moving objects with a motion effect. This trick works very well for a cityscape at night filled with bright lights from the busy traffic. It also requires a tripod so the Galaxy Z Flip4 is totally capable of impromptu long-exposure shots.

How this trick works:

  • The average shutter speed on most mobile is between 1/60 to 1/250 of a second. Yes, that’s very fast. While that’s fine for most photoshoots, this allows very little time for your phone to allow light in. Less light in = horrible night shots.
  • By leaving your camera shutter open for a longer time, you’re allowing time for more light to go in. It is why you should dial down the brightness (or set your ISO really low) when you leave the shutter open for 2 seconds in order to not over-expose the photo.

2. Timelapse at Night

This is perhaps the easiest trick on our list to try. There’s nothing quite like watching a bustling city transition from day to night. And the beauty of watching so is like admiring a sunset; the sky turns into a lush dark blue, and different coloured lights of buildings go on to lit the city. Speaking of which, this trick is perfect for recording a sunset!

How this trick works:

  • Again, a tripod is needed here, which you don’t need if you have the Galaxy Z Flip4. Since Samsung Galaxy phones are equipped with a “Night Hyperlapse” mode, all you need to do is activate it, and the phone will automatically record the view while maintaining the right lighting balance.

3. Light Painting

Works similarly to long-exposure shots; have a moving object with a light source, and move around a still subject. What this does is give a consistent light trail that seems as if an “entity” is moving around the subject.

How this trick works:

  • Go back to Pro Mode, set the ISO to 50 and have your shutter speed delay until 2 seconds. This should be ample time for the photographer to move around with lights. And since the photographer will be in motion, they will be a blur and not appear (exactly) in the shot.
  • Again, this requires a tripod so your photos don’t become a blur, as well as a shutter remote to let the photographer start the shot and quickly run around with the light. As the Galaxy Z Flip4 supports hands-free shutter release with hand gestures, no additional Bluetooth remote is needed.

Four generations in and it seem that interest in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is still going strong in both the bar and foldable smartphone market.

Aside from its eye-catching design, the Galaxy Z Flip4 features a 6.7-inch display that unfolds a beautiful view thanks to its Ultra Thin Glass which is tested to withstand 200,000 folds.

With everything combined, it makes sense why the Galaxy Z Flip phone, generation after generation, is consistently a revolutionary cult favourite. And we think the model will continue to snag that title as a must-have tool for content creators.
