In the era of living with Social Media; it’s totally understandable that we just want to get the perfect shot for our social media feed. Be it food or group shots with our friends; taking the perfect photo is harder than it seems.
True story; our (writer) friends can take up to an hour just to grab the perfect shot. Don’t blame us; we are all photography enthusiasts so it’s either a great photo post or none at all. For us, group photos are notoriously hard. Everyone wants to look good, but not having a tripod or a photographer may mean results (and looks) will vary.
With luck, everyone will look on point. Without it, it’s just too much of a hassle to keep requesting a reshoot.
Well, let us share a couple of tried-and-tested tips to help you nail that perfect group shot, which was easily achievable with the help of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.
1. Find the best well-lit spot
It goes without saying that natural light is your best friend in photography as it flatters the skin better than any editing app. This is also favourable as you don’t need to heavily tweak your photos which can look unnatural at times.
We always like our favourite sunny spot in our office which is by the windows. Especially if your phone has a big aperture, it’ll allow more natural light into the camera. Lucky for us too is that the Galaxy Z Flip4 has a dual rear camera with a wide aperture of f/1.8; a good standard for mobile phones.
2. Angle your phone (make sure there’s no obstacle)
Have you ever tried to take a photo after angling your body and practising your expressions, only to find out a finger or a piece of rubbish is in the way? The right angling and position of your camera will determine the result and dynamics of your images.
For example, wide-angle lenses/modes are great for landscape pictures as it captures a wider view of the surrounding, making the result look immersive.
Rather than going back further to capture your whole surrounding or the crew, just use a phone like the Galaxy Z Flip4 which has a 12MP Wide-angle with OIS technology as well as a group shot mode so your photos will capture every detail.
3. Set a timer
If you don’t have a photographer, you’ll need a timer. Do practice your pose and remember your position before you run to the camera, press the shutter button, and run back to your position.
Of course, if you have a Bluetooth shutter remote, it makes everything easier.
For us, all we needed was to access the Galaxy Z Flip4’s live-view feature found on its cover screen. And rather than a timer, all we did was use our favourite hand gesture (a ‘high-five’) to activate the camera shutter.
4. Play with location
Yes, location matters! If you are frustrated with the outcome of your photos, move on and scout for a spot that catches your attention. For example; if you want yourself and your crew to stand out, plain backgrounds are always the best.
Of course, if the background is the highlight, we’d like to feature more of it in the viewfinder, which means everyone will look smaller. But hey, just follow tips #2 + #3 and everyone should be able to look great.
5. Play with your angles
Nothing is as frustrating as getting the right angle for your photos. In fact, angles play a BIG ROLE in determining the effect of your photos. Plus, it can change the perspective of your photos.
Want to look tall? Take a photo from the bottom. Make sure you lower your chin too so you can hide any unflattering angles. For example, the Galaxy Z Flip4’s foldable screen allows us to play with angles better even if the spot is tight. The live screen shown on the cover screen is also a big help in checking our angles before we shoot.
