Here’s What We Learned From The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event 2022

The long-awaited Samsung Galaxy Unpacked August 2022 just happened on 10 August 2022, featuring a number of new releases including a whole new generation of foldable smartphones, holistic health innovation in the form of new smartwatches, and an upgrade on their top-of-the-line TWS earbuds.

Amongst the new releases are the Galaxy Z Flip4, the Galaxy Z Foldd4, the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro, and the Galaxy Buds2 Pro.

Introducing: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 & Galaxy Z Fold4

Of all the announcements tonight, this one is the least surprising, given the number of leaks and teasers already found online. The rumours are mostly true: Samsung started the event off strong with the unveiling of the new generation of their foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4.

At a glance, the fourth-gen foldables look almost exactly like their older brothers, but it’s the minor differences that make the most impact. With slimmer hinges, thinner bezels, customizable form factors and overall upgraded performance, the Galaxy Z series continues to break from convention to bring foldable phones into the mainstream.

These two new additions to the Galaxy Z series are Samsung’s toughest foldables yet, sporting Armor Aluminum frames along with exclusive Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the Cover Screen and back. The Main Screen is also fortified with the optimized layer structure to reduce damage from external shock. Lastly, both are IPX825 certified water resistant, making them the first water-resistant foldable phones in the world.

Additionally, they now pack the same flagship camera system as the Galaxy S22 series, allowing you to take better photos even in low light conditions. The brighter sensors and enhanced processing power, photos taken with the Galaxy Z series will be clear and crisper!

Galaxy Watch5 & Galaxy Watch5 Pro

The newest additions to the Galaxy Watch lineup, the Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro, are landing with more advanced features to shape health and wellness habits. 

This year, the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro feature a Sapphire Crystal Display that is 60% tougher. The smartwatches come in all-neutral colour options, and users can further customize the watches to fit their preferences with a greater selection of straps and watch faces.

Health tracking is better than ever before on the newest additions of the Galaxy Watch. Equipped with Samsung’s unique BioActive Sensor that combines the Optical Heart Rate Sensor and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis sensor into one chip, the Galaxy Watch5 can deliver extensive readings that include heart rate, blood oxygen level, and even stress level with even greater accuracy.

Galaxy For the Planet

Samsung’s mission on sustainability continues on this year through their Galaxy For the Planet initiative. 

Notably, Samsung announced that more than 90% of the new Galaxy Buds2 Pro is made with recycled materials, while the new Galaxy Z series incorporates ocean-bound plastic into its key hardware and components. Besides that, the packaging for the Galaxy Z series is not only made out of 100% recycled paper, but also up to 58% smaller in volume compared to the first-generation foldables.
