The OPPO Find X5 Pro was launched earlier this year. Yes, we know, this is kind of a late review, but after a good half a year of using the smartphone as his daily driver, our resident video editor, Umar, has some Opinions on the phone, both good and bad, and here’s the rundown.
As a true flagship smartphone, the OPPO Find X5 Pro offers some amazing features with a pretty hefty price point of RM4,999.

Build & Design
As always, let’s start with the aesthetics of the phone.
The OPPO Find X5 Pro feels really nice to grip in the hands with its nicely balanced weight. It has a premium look to go with the feel, and we especially appreciate the sort of melted back camera module slope.
The phone is available in Glaze Black and Ceramic White, the latter of which we reviewed. The back panel is made out of a microcrystalline ceramic that is scratch-resistant, fingerprint-proof, and IP68 water and dust resistant. In Ceramic White, the back of the phone looks sleek and futuristic, broken only by the OPPO and Hasselblad branding placed on the bottom right edge.
Display
On the front, you’ll find a curved 6.7” LTPO2 AMOLED with 1440p and 120Hz refresh rate. For those unfamiliar, LTPO2 is great for conserving battery by lowering the refresh rate to 1Hz when needed, so that’s a nice touch.
The display itself is sharp, giving you beautiful visuals no matter what content you’re consuming. As expected of the 1 Billion Colour Bionic Display, the colours look vibrant and realistic with support for both HDR10+ and 10-bit colours.
Unfortunately, the display only maxed out at 760 nits, which is not the brightest in its price range, since competitors can achieve well over 1000 nits.
Performance
Here’s where it gets a little disappointing, and not because the performance is bad – on the contrary, it’s amazing.
With top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with either 8 or 12 GB RAM, performance is excellent on the Find X5 Pro. There were no detected lag issues or stutters even while running a very graphically challenging game like Genshin Impact. For reference, all settings were set to max with 60fps enabled.
The same goes for COD Mobile. Even on max frame rate and max graphics, the phone provides a buttery smooth experience with minimal frame drops.
However – and this is our biggest disappointment with the phone – the thermals were awful. The Find X5 Pro is supposed to come with a 75% larger vapour chamber that should cool the phone effectively, but unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations.
During our testing, the temperatures rose up to 44 degrees while we were just downloading Genshin Impact. While playing the game, it sat between 41- 45 degrees, which resulted in some thermal throttling.
The overheating makes the phone genuinely uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. And it’s not just during gaming – we experienced excessive overheating when testing the camera as well.
Camera
The camera has always been the OPPO Find X series’ selling point, and it’s no different on the FInd X5 Pro, which gets a 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, and a 13 MP 2x tele lens. Co-developed with Hasselblad (which is proudly announced on the back of the phone), the phone’s camera colour processing is superb and adds a splash of artistic flair to your photos.
Disregarding the filters, though, images straight out of the camera are incredible in and of themselves. Thanks to the new custom MariSiliconX chip, OPPO’s own self-developed imaging NPU, the HDR shots are truly worthy of love at first sight.
As for video, the Find X5 Pro is able to record 4K resolution 10-bit HDR videos at 60fps. The videos look really good, with great details, punchy contrast, and a wide dynamic range. Stabilization is also truly brilliant, and the footage looks as though the phone was placed on a gimbal. The focus tracking also works well.
Battery
Finally, the Find X5 Pro sports an impressive 5000 mAh battery that can power you through the entire day at medium/high usage, partly thanks to the LTPO2 display mentioned previously.
In addition, you also get 80W SuperVOOC Flash Charging that takes the phone from 0 - 100% in just 30 minutes.
Conclusion
- Our rating: 8/10
- Pros: Great performance, amazing camera capabilities, long battery life
- Cons: Overheating
- Who is it for? Mobile photography enthusiasts would love this, as the MariSilicon X NPU really gives you incredible photos in all lighting conditions. It’s also great for heavy users and gamers.
To wrap up, the OPPO Find X5 Pro is a true flagship that stands up to the title, offering you a beautiful design, brilliant display, powerful performance, and a very good camera. However, overheating is still definitely a setback, so if you’re planning on using this phone for long hours with intense usage, you might want to reconsider.
