Throwback to the 2000s when you could be the coolest kid in class just by owning a (bedazzled) flip phone. Now, everyone’s phones just look like the same rectangular brick. Sure, the technology is much better and you can do so much more with a smartphone than you ever thought possible, but hanging up after an argument by tapping on a touchscreen just doesn’t have the same satisfaction as slamming your flip phone shut, does it?
If you’re feeling nostalgic, then here’s what you need to know about Samsung’s foldable range, which includes the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. As the first smartphone brand to release a foldable smartphone, Samsung takes the classic flip phone design and imbues it with all the features you would expect from a modern smartphone – and more!
Here are some of our favourite features in the Galaxy Z series.

Flex Mode
Yes, you can definitely flex with your Galaxy Z series, but that’s not all there is. The Flex Mode is a pretty nifty feature that splits your screen in two so you can do more on just one device.
Flex Mode activates right away when you have your foldable phone half-open (or half-closed, depending on your perspective) like a laptop. When it’s in the right position, apps get sorted automatically to the top half, and the lower half will offer various controls such as screenshot, brightness, or volume control. On the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, you can even take notes on the bottom half while watching or taking a video call in the top half!
Most importantly, the Flex Mode provides hands-free flexibility, allowing you to work smarter and more efficiently with better multitasking features. Not only can you run two apps simultaneously on both screens, but you can also use Samsung Pay even when folded!
Auto Framing
Did I mention that you can take photos and videos hands-free with the Galaxy Z series?
With the Auto Framing feature, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G and the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G can track your movement to keep you centred in the frame, so you don’t have to keep holding up your phone. Not only you; the phone can auto frame up to four recognisable people within up to 3.5m distance if you’re in a group call!
Even if you’re out and about, Auto Framing also works when you’re holding the phone. With this, you can make sure that you’re firmly in the centre of attention during important meetings!
Not only that, you can also take screen captures while watching videos and attending calls without any interruptions, and preview up to 100 results to instantly share or delete.
Connectivity
Don’t flip out on us (sorry, couldn’t resist), but the Galaxy Z series comes with amazing connectivity capabilities. You can pair it with your laptop, your Galaxy Watch4, or your Galaxy Buds2 to experience seamless connectivity within the Galaxy Ecosystem.
What is that, you ask? Well, imagine having to upload a file to your computer. Instead of hunting down your data cable and hooking your phone up to your laptop with awkward wires in the way, you can just use the Link to Windows feature and drop your file into your computer easily with the Galaxy Z series.
Here’s another scenario: you’re watching a movie on your Samsung tablet through your Galaxy Buds2 when a call comes in. What do you do?
With the Buds Auto Switch feature, you can easily switch between your tablet and your Galaxy Z series without needing to fumble with your Bluetooth settings, as Samsung’s new Connectivity Framework allows audio to be communicated between devices that are nearby. Just tap on your Buds to answer the call, and when you hang up, the Galaxy Buds2 will automatically switch back to your tablet!
You may be sleeping, but the Galaxy Z series certainly isn’t! When you pair your foldable phone with the Galaxy Watch4, your smartphone will be able to provide sleep coaching with daily sleep records so you can better understand how to manage your rest.
