Earlier this year in 2021, we reviewed the popular mid-range Samsung Galaxy A52 which is equipped with 4G. It has premium features such as an AMOLED display that has a refresh rate of 90Hz, 4K video support for the front and back cameras and a speedy Snapdragon 720G chipset.
While the 4G unit is already quite popular among users and Samsung fans, there comes the question of whether the 5G unit - Galaxy A52s 5G, is worth getting. Does 5G make a difference in user experience?
Here, we take a quick look to see the dissimilarities.
Samsung Galaxy A52 4G vs Galaxy A52s 5G?
Same:
- Design
- Ports & Connectivity
- Battery
- Camera
Different:
- Display
- Processor & Gaming
Similarities:
1. Design
The build quality and design of the A52s 5G have the same plasticky back as the A52 4G, which gives off a matte, smooth-to-the-touch finish.
Its quad-camera setup at the back has the same raised bump that doesn’t look or feel too out there (protrusion is minimal in a sleek and stylish manner). Yes, you can comfortably place the phone on a flat surface.
The body of the Galaxy A52s is also certified with the same IP67 water protection rating.
2. Ports & Connectivity
The standard set of ports on the A52s are like the Galaxy A52.
There’s the Type-C input and 3.5 mm jack at the bottom, with a bottom-firing speaker beside them which supports full stereo surround sound. The A52s also has Dolby Atmos sound support for an upgraded, immersive sound system experience.
3. Battery
Both variants have a 4,500 mAh battery that has 25 watts fast charging support. Inside the box is an adapter that's only a 15 watts charger. It should charge your phone from 0% to 50% in just about 30 minutes.
4. Camera
Just like the A52, the A52s has a quad-camera setup too.
The main camera is a 64MP with OIS that is supported by an 8MP Ultra Wide Angle (0.5x zoom), a 5MP Macro Lens and a Depth Sensor for portraits. Meanwhile, the front camera is 32MP.
On video resolution; the Samsung A52s 5G also supports 4K UHD videos at 30fps with both the front and back camera.
5. Security & Software UI
Both phones have the same under-display fingerprint sensor. The overall UI system is not going to be as fast as the S21 Ultra but will get the job done. Its UI is the One UI 3.1 - based on Android 11, which is found on all Samsung devices.
Differences:
1. Display
Here's where things start to get different.
Galaxy A52s 5G has the same 6.5-inch AMOLED 1080P panel with gorilla glass but supports a 120Hz refresh rate. This is a star feature as a 120Hz refresh rate is rare for a mid-range device. The 4G variant, supports a 90Hz refresh rate.
Visuals are about the same in terms of resolutions and crispness; no changes there. With the higher refresh rates, you get smoother visuals which are highly beneficial for fast-paced games.
2. Processor & Gaming
Another change here is the processor. The A52s 5G comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G whereas the A52 4G has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G
On the GPU, the A52s 5G unit comes with Adreno 619, versus the A52 4G's Adreno 618.
With these changes, you are definitely able to play games and multitask with better graphics settings on the A52s 5G variant.
In terms of RAM and storage, the 5G variant starts at 6GB + 128GB, all the way to 8GB + 256GB.
How did you find the differences? If you want to future-proof your phone for at least the next 3-4 years, we'd suggest the 5G variant. If you're still not quite sure, stay tuned for our review on the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G soon!
