There are still no signs of Google services coming back to Huawei's Android phones. But Huawei fans can rejoice!

Now with Petal Search, we think it's a good time to pick up one of the Huawei Mate 40 phone series as your main driver.

Because most users still can't part with Google services, Huawei came up with Petal Search to replace Google Play services. Built by an Ireland-based Huawei subsidiary, this Bing-based search engine lets users download and update apps without needing to fuss over a complicated installation of APK apps, cloning old Android data or sideload apps.

What about the Huawei Mate 40 Series?

In the Mate 40 series, it will feature Huawei's latest technology, aesthetic designs and even durability. The line also comes with the most advanced chipset coupled with 5G capabilities and a very powerful camera setup.

Our video editor got an up-close to the flagship-of-the-flagship Huawei Mate 40 Pro. The key specs are as followed:

  • Kirin 9000 5G chipset
  • 6.76 inch Full HD+ OLED display
  • 90Hz refresh rate, 88-degree curved screen
  • 8GB+256GB
  • IP68 dust and water resistance
  • 3D Face Unlock which also supports HUAWEI Pay
  • EMUI 11 that supports AI gestures including Always-On-Display
The Always-On-Display makes the Mate 40 Pro 5G even more charming to look at.

Now for everyone's favourite part of a phone: the octagonal-shaped camera setup. Our video editor's take was that the camera has very "advanced processing" power.

Front camera

  • 13MP Selfie Camera (f/2.4) + 3D Depth Sensing Camera
  • Two punch holes notch design

Rear cameras

  • 50MP Ultra Vision Camera (Wide-angle, f/1.9)
  • 20MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera (f/1.8)
  • 12MP Telephoto Camera (7x Optical Zoom, f/3.4 OIS)
  • Laser autofocus

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro 5G's battery capacity stands at 4,400mAh. It can also fast charge with an astounding 65W rate via cable and 50W wirelessly.

To demonstrate just how fast it took to charge the phone, our video editor was given the unit with only 1% of battery. In just ~45 minutes, it was already full at 100%.

Another disruptive piece of detail: the phone's chipset recorded an overall AnTuTu scoring of 693,603 which surpasses Samsung's Exynos 1080. With Petal Search replacing Google services, this phone is sure to be a very disruptive one among other flagship competitors.

At the time of publishing, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 5G is said to be priced at about Euro 1,200 (RM5,834.64). As usual, we can expect to see a different price for Malaysia itself.

Would you get this phone? In our honest opinion, its features and design makes it quite a catch!
