Our beloved budget tech brand, Xiaomi, touches its 5th year anniversary of operating in Malaysia. And to celebrate that, Xiaomi Malaysia has finally launched the latest addition to the successful Note line - the Redmi Note 7.
Just to be clear, the brand Redmi itself is currently a sub-brand under Xiaomi, but it’s headed by Xiaomi Malaysia for our local market.
Not only did we learn about Note 7 at its launch on March 19, we also got to learn more details about Redmi 7 and a line of cool home gadgets called Mi Smart Sensor Set; a bundle to smartproof anyone’s home even if they’re not a tech person.
So.. what's to know about the Redmi Note 7?

1. Strong body
The Redmi Note 7 is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both its front and back, which lends its durability against impacts like bad falls and drops. That’s not to say this phone will be unbreakable, but you can rest assured that you won’t suddenly find random cracks on your phone out of your pocket.
2. 48MP camera
For a mid-range option, you’re able to churn up a lot of pixels for such a low price point. How the phone does this is that its 12MP Samsung sensor will process a photo that’s similar to what a 48MP lens produces. This is supported by another Samsung 5MP sensor, completing the dual set up rear cameras.
Meanwhile, its selfie camera is a 13MP sensor. Together with its Snapdragon 660 which natively supports 25MP, the Note 7 has pretty good camera considering the fact that many other phones of this price has less to offer.

Can’t get your eyes off your phone? The Redmi Note 7 is guaranteed to have a standby of 104 hours, 14 hours of web browsing, 14 hours of video playback and a day’s worth of calls. All of this is done with its 4,000mAh battery pack.
4. Only mid-range budget option to offer low-light photography
As crazy or simple as this sounds, Redmi Note 7 is the only budget smartphone (as of its release) in its category to offer a low-light photography mode. Thanks to its big ½” sensor, the phone is expected to capture decent photos in dark settings together with its f/1.8 aperture.
Other camera features you can look forward to include AI portrait and AI scene detection mode.
5. Has IR control
Remember Infrared? Not surprising for a brand that is full of smart home innovations, the Redmi Note 7 follows suit from Xiaomi’s older phones with an IR blaster as well. So pull off some magic and universally control your smart home with just the press of a button from your phone.
