Unlike the Mate 10 Pro, 20 Pro is given an upgrade: three Leica lenses with three times the optical zoom. The main camera has 40 megapixels of a wide-angle lens, which will automatically switch to the 20-megapixel Ultra-Wide Angle Lens when taking a landscape shot. Its third lens is an eight-megapixel telephoto lens with three times optical zoom and OIS, while the front camera comes with a 24-megapixel lens.

20 MP Ultra Wide Angle Lens

Thanks to Huawei’s Master A.I., it can detect the object that you are snapping. After which it will select the appropriate lens to do the job. Master A.I also detects and focuses on the object you are trying to snap while applying special effects to enhance colours and sharpness. Of course, you can always manually switch the lenses around when needed.

Battery: Is it a Powerhouse?

The Mate 20 Pro comes with a battery power of 4200 mAh; the highest in the market compared to phones like Samsung Galaxy Note 9, which is only at 4000 mAh. However, its battery consumption isn’t anything to shout about. Even with minimal usage such as browsing social media apps and streaming songs on Spotify, the battery barely lasted a whole day.

One of the phone’s unique feature is its ability to wirelessly charge another phone. Place both phones back-to-back and just wait for your phone to juice up. However, do take note that this only works with phones that have Qi support.

In-screen sensor: Yay or Nay?

Passcodes and facial recognition aside, the Mate 20 Pro has an innovative in-display fingerprint scanner as well. Just place your finger or thumb where you’re prompted to (roughly about a third of the way up the screen) and you’re good. However, the scanner might have trouble scanning your fingerprint when the screen gets greasy. Moreover, the unlock system can also be irksome when it denies your access more frequently than expected.

Design: Clean look and easy to hold

The device is covered in glass from front to back, while its curving sides are protected with solid aluminium frames. This gives the phone a smart and sleek look, boasting a screen size of 6.3 inches.

The Downside

Like most newly-released phones, the audio jack is no longer available. Instead, it uses the new USB Type-C as the primary port for charging and also to connect your earphones. Although this wouldn’t be a problem if you are a wireless headphone user, the phone does come with a USB C-to-audio jack adapter in case you’d like to use your favourite 3.5mm jack headphones.
