Why You Shouldn’t Get the iPhone X, But the OnePlus 5T Instead

Table of Contents

There is no perfect smartphone that can accommodate the requirements of everyone. But at the same time, people are influenced by trends, fascinated with the new, and quite often impulsive too. So the best thing for a smart consumer like yourself is to identify one that has most if not all the features that you want, and is reasonably priced.

Since the launch of the iPhone X in November 2017, people have been reviewing its features (watch: iPhone X unboxing) and not to forget, comparing its price with other flagship smartphones. Here we will go through some of the key features of the iPhone X which starts from RM 5,149 in comparison with the OnePlus 5T, a premium Chinese smartphone that was also launched in the same month but starts from RM 2,099.

Face Recognition

Ambitious was Apple when they decided to remove the iconic Home Button for the iPhone X. Users will have to learn to adjust to the absence of the home button and learn new gestures. Change is a risk, and it will take time for its users to get used to it.

One of the iPhone X’s new feature is the Face ID, the face recognition which requires the owner to look directly at the phone and swipe upwards – a 2-step process. The OnePlus 5T has this feature too, the Face Unlock, and it unlocks the phone more easily without requiring the swipe action.

There is also a fingerprint recognition detector at the back of the phone which allows the owner to unlock it in 0.2 seconds, an ideal function to unlock the phone as you pick it up. The OnePlus 5T wins the iPhone X in the face recognition aspect.

Appearance

The iPhone X has a thickness of 7.7mm, width of 70.9mm, height of 143.6mm and weighs 174 grams while the OnePlus 5T is 7.3mm, 75mm, 156.1mm and 162 grams respectively. Which goes to show that the 5T is basically thinner, lighter and has a bigger screen (6.01 inches) than the iPhone X. So if you are into slightly bigger sized phones with larger screens, you need not worry as the 5T does not come with extra weight or thickness.

Camera & Display

Both phones have the autofocus and touch to focus functions, but the iPhone X has a 12-megapixel camera (front: 7MP) while the 5T is 20 megapixels (front: 16MP) with its dual lens. The image resolutions are 4000 X 3000 and 4616 X 3464 respectively which tells us that the 5T would be the choice for a photographer.

In terms of display, the iPhone uses OLED technology and has a better screen resolution of 1125 X 2436 pixels while the 5T uses Optic AMOLED with 1080 X 2160 pixels.

Battery and miscellaneous

The iPhone X only has one sim card slot, comes with a 2716mAh Li-ion battery and supports wireless charging, but the wireless charger is sold separately. The 5T supports dual sim and it comes with a 3300mAh Li-Polymer battery without the wireless charging function, but it boasts a fast charging technology and a half-hour charge will keep you going the whole day.

The 5T still has the good old 3.5mm earphone jack so it is compatible with most earphones and headphones on the market.

Conclusion

These two phones are compatible with many of their features, but many Android fans and Apple fans will think of their own as superior, something that can be disputed until the cows come home. But as for now, what we can see is a huge price difference as the iPhone X is selling above RM5000 mark and the OnePlus 5T is priced below half of that. So why pay double the price for a phone that does not come with double the features?
