Sadly I have had to return this item. Thanks to Amazon for making the process so easy. It is the only device I know of that will display the speed sign on-screen continuously until there is a speed sign that changes the limit. People have said the speech is poor, but if set in the permanent display function, the voice was good enough to alert me to a limit change and I could see what the new limit is. I did however, turn off lane departure and distance warnings. They were annoying and often inaccurate. But I just wanted a permanently displayed speed limit on the screen. Unfortunately, the device turned out to be unreliable which is a great pity. I tested it for 5 days and had the following happen. a) It would somtimes miss a sign; b) it would read a sign that said 60 or 40, but display 80; c) often after this happened, it would stay stuck at 80 for a considerable time regardless of speed limit; d) it might then suddenly start working again; e) I could pull out the power supply and plug back in to make it start working again, but that is not ideal, and in any case, the fault would reappear at some stage f) a few times it would suddenly display 20 even though I hadn't passed a speed sign, and in any case there are no 20 signs on the roads I used. I will add that I have speed sign recognition in the car (but small image on the dash), and it correctly noted the speed signs every time this device failed. I also borrowed a Uniden dash cam that can read speed signs. Again, this also correctly spotted every speed sign. So it wasn't a matter of passing difficult to see speed signs. This Techna XX dashcam had so much promise. It doesn't have GPS speed sensing but I didn't want that. I just wanted a relibale large display of the last speed sign that I passed. This unit isn't reliable. If ever the unit is upgraded, I would be keen to try it again, but until then, mine is being returned.
